Supporting Afghan Resettlement in Michigan

As roughly 50,000 Afghan refugees begin resettling in communities across the country, we at Refugee Education Center are excited to welcome hundreds of individuals here to the West Michigan community. We are honored to assist these resilient families and children while they set roots in this wonderful and unique community with a rich history of supporting and welcoming refugees and immigrants from all over the world.

We are working closely with our local partners: including refugee resettlement agencies, state and local government agencies, and intermediate school districts to welcome and support our new neighbors as they arrive. Including, meeting families in temporary housing situations to administering education assessments with school aged children and support families enrolling children into local schools. Additionally, holding professional development training/supporting sessions with regional schools, school administrators, and teachers so that they are prepared and equipped to serve these children well. Lastly, we are also partnering with local resettlement agencies to financially support the securing of semi-permanent housing for newly resettled Afghan families.

Donations big or small all make a difference in helping us serve these families well, ensuring that they are welcomed to the United States and taken care of from day one. We hope you consider supporting us and more importantly our newest neighbors!
