Thanks to a matching grant, your gift today has TWICE the power to ensure every young person—no matter their ZIP code—has the chance to learn how journalism works, tell their own stories, and become trusted voices in their community.
We see student journalism as a catalyst at a critical time in a young person’s life. Not only do school news publications enhance academic development, they also cultivate critical-thinking, hone truth-recognition and foster community and teamwork. But we still have a long way to go because most NYC public high schools do NOT have student press. Our mission is to change that by establishing 200 more student news teams by 2035.
A Proven Program for Student Press
Since 2021, Press Pass NYC has helped teacher and student fellows launch and sustain 30 student news publications across our NYC public schools. Together, these news teams have become important platforms for student voices across our city and a vital source of truth for their communities. This year we’re working with 14 more NYC public schools - a majority serving our city's most economically disadvantaged students.
Raising Support to Raise Student Voices
This fall, we’re asking everyone to come together to empower students and build back journalism in our schools and communities.
Join us and Press for Truth today by becoming:
- A Publisher: A gift of $12,500 sponsors a full year of professional development, training and mentorship for a student news team at one Press Pass NYC partner school.
- A Student Champion: Sponsor five Press Pass NYC student fellows with a gift of $5,000 (or $416 per month).
- A Student Patron: Sponsor one Press Pass NYC student fellow with a gift of $1,000 (or $84 per month).
- An Advocate: Your gift of $200 will go toward sponsoring our teacher and student fellows.
- A Subscriber: Monthly givers at any level receive a quarterly email with highlights of the best of student journalism in NYC schools.
