Your Voice Counts: End Child Labour, Protect Childhoods!

Every child deserves a safe childhood, an education and the chance to dream.
But today in Uganda over 6.2 million children are denied this basic right. They are forced into hazardous work, exploited in homes, farms, streets and informal businesses losing their innocence, their future and their dignity.
We are launching this campaign to stop child labour and child exploitation in Uganda by supporting community outreach, legal protection, rescue interventions and education pathways for vulnerable children, with a specific focus on Iganga, Kaliro and Bugiri districts in the Busoga sub-region, where child labour prevalence remains high affecting an estimated 34% of children, particularly in agriculture and informal work.
Since inception in 2000, Platform for Labour Action (PLA) has been at the forefront of eliminating child exploitation in Uganda, from domestic servitude and commercial agriculture to trafficking and children affected by conflict. PLA's integrated model addresses child labour across the full cycle: prevention, protection, reintegration and empowerment. We protect children, support families and build community-driven solutions for lasting change through education, skills development, and livelihood support, while addressing the systemic drivers of vulnerability such as poverty, limited access to education, and weak protection systems.
Why This Matters
Child labour is not just a violation of rights, it robs children of their health, safety and future opportunities. Many of these children come from impoverished households and are pushed into work due to economic hardship. Without support, they remain trapped in cycles of exploitation.
