RiSi - Read It, See It 

The Problem 

Imagine a child who has no one at home to read them a bedtime story…or any story at all. Whether due to hectic schedules or limited resources, too many children deprived of this simple bonding and learning routine can experience diminished vocabulary development, delayed reading, and struggles with school. Children’s reading proficiency scores have plummeted in the United States, and overburdened educators cannot solve this crisis alone.

The Solution 

Read it, See it (RiSi) is a digital app hosted by a friendly octopus book buddy, named RiSi, who is always available to read to a child from a diverse selection of high-quality children’s books. RiSi will also help the child to read on their own by taking turns reading, listening and offering gentle correction, and engaging with the child about the story. When a child correctly reads the text on a page out loud, the accompanying illustration springs to life providing delightful, instant recognition of the child’s accomplishment. Reading with RiSi becomes something children love to do and want to do, because it makes them feel heard, proud, and capable. Developed in consultation with renowned children’s literacy experts and featuring exclusive, speech recognition technology innovation, RiSi makes it possible for parents to feel comfortable empowering their children to read independently. 

The Promise 

We are committed to reaching as many young children as possible with the magic and joy of reading with RiSi, including those with limited funds and limited access to digital devices. Our Get One, Give One program ensures that every RiSi purchase prompts a free RiSi donation to a child who might otherwise go without. Octopus Literacy Group will supplement this program with proactive RiSi donations in partnership with other nonprofit organizations.
