I am a member of the Jewish community of Amersfoort for over 45 years. Entering this historic monument feels like coming home all the time. I heard about the sad history during World War II when so many Amersfoort Jews were murdered. Still, after the war the community made a restart showing resilience and vitality. We are able and determined to continue the services keeping our 300 years traditions. Approaching the 300th anniversary in 2027 it feels good to ask friends to help us restore the interior. Frankly spoken, the interior now, is shabby with the exception of the ark of covenant which dates from 1843. I am looking forward to enter the refreshed interior so we can say: "How beautiful are your tents, Jacob, your dwellings, Israel".
