More about the exhibition
With “Along the Color Line – Traces of a Transatlantic Modernism” the Museum Ludwig is dedicating itself for the first time to the influence of European modernism on Black artists and intellectuals in the USA and examining their cultural exchange with movements of the African diaspora in Europe. The exhibition shows modern and contemporary works by US and European artists in dialogue with literary texts by sociologist W.E.B. Du Bois (1868–1963), who spent formative years in Europe. The exhibition's supporting program places a special focus on salon culture, which built crucial bridges between actors on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1920s and 30s. The exhibition aims to bring together a large selection of outstanding artists such as Belkis Ayón, Frank Bowling, Beuford Delaney, Aaron Douglas, Lubaina Himid, Loïs Mailou Jones, and Henry Ossawa Tanner, among many others.

We invite you to be part of this exceptional exhibition!
