Help support coastal reforestation in East Africa
Check out all the work More Trees Together is doing right now in Kenya!!!
Mangroves are one of the world’s most important ecosystems,
they provide multiple benefits to both people and planet, such as:
-Supporting biodiversity and fisheries
Storing carbon and mitigating climate change
-Protecting shorelines from storms, waves, and erosion
-Filtering pollutants and sediments from land
-Enhancing water quality and clarity
-Offering livelihoods and resources for coastal communities
Mangroves provide invaluable benefits to coastal communities around the globe, and they will only become more important in the face of accelerating climate change. Mangroves’ aerial roots prevent erosion, retain and filter sediments, and can facilitate soil’s vertical growth—and in some cases, can help the land keep pace with sea level rise. As people plan for climate responses, they should be looking to mangroves as part of the solution .
The average rates of global mangrove loss are now slowing, and mangroves are being restored across their endemic lands despite external threats. But to fully recover mangrove populations and reap their benefits for generations to come, people worldwide will need to come together as allies for these critical systems.
Together we can do it!!
