From Aid to Entreprise in Local Communities
For more than 40 years, conventional aid efforts have struggled to bring lasting change to the Democratic Republic of Congo. At Maarifa, we take a different approach. Rather than relying on traditional aid models, we collaborate directly with Congolese innovators and small-scale industry entrepreneurs to develop sustainable businesses. These enterprises not only foster economic independence but also generate meaningful job opportunities for women, youth, and entire communities across various value chains in eastern DRC. By strengthening local industries and empowering entrepreneurs, we help build a more resilient and self-sufficient economy.
We are collaborating with African Diaspora Connection to raise funds in support of establishing a vocational and skills training center for small-scale industry entrepreneurs and artisans in the city of Goma, DRC. This center will serve as a hub for hands-on training, business development, and technical skill-building, equipping local innovators with the tools and knowledge needed to grow sustainable enterprises. By fostering entrepreneurship and enhancing craftsmanship, we aim to create new economic opportunities, strengthen local value chains, and empower communities to achieve long-term prosperity.
