La Forêt Retrouvée aids reforestation, food security, health, education & self-reliance in Madagascar through agroforestry efforts

Founded in 2019 in Madagascar’s Boeny region, *La Forêt Retrouvée* is a grassroots environmental and humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to reversing severe ecological degradation, combating destructive wildfires, and building community resilience. Operating within one of the world's most critical biodiversity hotspots, we bridge environmental emergency with human survival. By partnering directly with local populations, we implement sustainable agroforestry models that eliminate reliance on slash-and-burn agriculture and charcoal production, effectively creating an equilibrium where trees, food crops, and families thrive together. Our integrated approach spans scientific conservation, in collaboration with the University of Mahajanga, wildfire mitigation, public health, and youth education.

To date, our proven track record includes placing 135 hectares of degraded land under active restoration and planting nearly 20,000 native trees and plants representing over 100 endemic species. Beyond reforestation, we have built essential community infrastructure to support over 2,500 beneficiaries, including rebuilding the Mangaroa primary school, establishing a mobile library (*Bibliobus*), launching a solar-powered irrigation network, and providing ongoing medical and nutritional care. As we scale our regional impact, our immediate strategic priorities focus on expanding rural healthcare infrastructure through a new medical dispensary, bridging the educational divide with digital learning initiatives and safe school transportation, scaling our sustainable agroforestry models to secure food sovereignty, and launching vocational training programs to ensure long-term professional integration for local youth.
