Let’s normalize Drug Checking together
For the past 20 years, Portugal has been at the forefront of drug policy change. And now you can be a part of that, too. As we move towards a future safe from a war on people who use drugs and we put in place the tools that enable that reality, drug checking will become increasingly important — and safe supply won’t change that.

Kosmicare already runs the first and only drug-checking service in Portugal. You can read about it on our website (kosmicare.org) or in the papers linked below. We provide the community with trustworthy results day in and day out. This consistent presence has helped normalize something that didn’t exist before.

From Portugal to the rest of the world
It’s now time to expand our operation, which is why we’re raising funds to buy and keep in operation a new device called FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared). This will allow us to collect even more samples and reach new communities. We will be able to have more statistically relevant data and use it for research and advocacy purposes.

With better data, we can build on Portugal’s position at the forefront of drug policy change and shine a light on the world of harm reduction. After all, there’s a lot to catch up after decades of prohibition. Kosmicare believes that Portugal offers ideal conditions for conducting research due to its decriminalization model and small population size. If you’d like to do research but need real-world data, this is how you get it.

Walking the talk is much more fun. Advocacy is essential to bring about change, including in drug policy, but seeing change really happen is particularly rewarding.
