We discovered this project on the main Rotary page for Ukraine, and it felt very close to home! The original link for the project went down, but this new link provides more information.
The Special Emergency Rescue Squad of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and protection of civilians amid the ongoing full-scale invasion. For nearly three years, these dedicated rescuers have carried out search and rescue missions, evacuated civilians from dangerous areas, and responded to emergencies involving explosive devices. Despite their heroic efforts, the living conditions of the rescuers and their families remain challenging. In response, Rotary E-Club Ukraine has committed to supporting them by arranging a modern playground for their children. The project includes installing new play structures such as slides, swings, and horizontal bars, replacing equipment that has been in place for over 40 years. Total Project Budget: 233,807.50 UAH ($9,000)
The Rotary Club of Ithaca, NY, made a $3000 donation to this project during our Fall 2025 tour, after a wonderful concert in their town!
Kids need to play, even during wartime--and especially if their parents are facing dangerous conditions every day. We hope that this project will restore a little bit of joy to Odesa's children.
