Help harness giant kelp forests to restore our oceans

The Kelp Forest Foundation (KFF) is proudly participating in the global GivingTuesday campaign, in collaboration with marine sustainability advocate Sea Going Green (SGG). With a rolling target of €15,000, the foundation is setting out to raise awareness and garner active engagement around the hugely underrated seaweed that is giant kelp.

GivingTuesday is a global philanthropic movement mobilizing millions of individuals and organizations across the world each year to give, collaborate, and celebrate the betterment of society. Since GivingTuesday 2023, KFF is ceasing this opportunity to build a global network of support for its mission to harness the power of giant kelp in restoring the health of our planet.

With the ecological role and benefits of kelp still understudied, since 2021, KFF has emerged at the forefront of various research initiatives. Currently, KFF is extending its scope of work to include the restoration of giant kelp forests, marking a proactive stride in its efforts to safeguard these underwater habitats. The foundation is working towards mainstreaming the recognition of giant kelp as a nature-based solution to a range of environmental challenges we face today.

“We are thrilled to join the growing and very much inspiring GivingTuesday initiative in the Netherlands and globally, especially alongside Sea Going Green", says Samantha Deane, Managing Director at the Kelp Forest Foundation. "This collaboration allows us to amplify our impact and engage a broader audience in our shared commitment to protecting our oceans and planet.”

Sea Going Green is a renowned sustainable tourism consultancy, dedicated to protecting, preserving, and restoring marine ecosystems. This year, SGG's thematic focus centers on the pivotal role of seaweed in sustainable solutions for alleviating the negative impacts of the tourism industry. An invaluable partner in this campaign, SGG brings its expertise and wide reach across the sustainability space to champion KFF’s mission and inspire positive change.
