As California faces another intense wildfire season, the need for trauma-informed integrative health support for firefighters and disaster-impacted communities continues to grow.

Integrative Healers Action Network (IHAN) is preparing now to mobilize wellness clinics, detox support services, practitioner volunteers, and recovery resources for frontline responders and communities affected by wildfires and climate disasters across California.

Since the 2017 Tubbs Fire, IHAN has coordinated integrative health support efforts during disasters and long-term recovery, providing thousands of treatments for firefighters, evacuees, and impacted communities. Our work includes firefighter detox support, nervous system regulation, acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, massage therapy, yoga, mindfulness, and community resilience programs.

In partnership with the Volunteer Fire Foundation and fire departments statewide, IHAN has:
• Delivered more than 6,600 integrative health treatments
• Supported more than 2,200 firefighters
• Coordinated firefighter detox and recovery programs
• Mobilized volunteer practitioners across California
• Responded to numerous wildfire disasters and community emergencies

Supporting firefighters and disaster-affected communities through integrative health, recovery, and resilience care.

Integrative Healers Action Network (IHAN) is a California-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing trauma-informed integrative health support for communities and first responders impacted by climate disasters and other crises.

IHAN was born out of the devastating 2017 Tubbs Fire in Sonoma County, when a group of integrative health practitioners came together to support survivors, evacuees, and frontline responders navigating overwhelming stress, trauma, and loss. What began as a grassroots volunteer effort has since grown into a statewide network of practitioners, partnerships, trainings, and wellness programs serving firefighters, disaster-affected communities, and vulnerable populations across California.

Our mission is to mobilize integrative health practitioners and community partners to provide accessible, compassionate, and evidence-informed care during disaster response and long-term recovery.

We believe recovery after disaster must address not only physical health, but also emotional wellbeing, nervous system regulation, resilience, connection, and long-term support. Through trauma-informed and community-centered care, IHAN helps individuals and communities navigate the chronic stress, toxic exposures, burnout, and emotional impacts associated with wildfires and climate-related disasters.

Our work includes:
• Integrative wellness clinics for firefighters and disaster-impacted communities
• Firefighter detoxification and toxic exposure recovery programs
• Mental health and nervous system support
• Acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, massage therapy, herbal medicine, yoga, meditation, and other integrative services
• Practitioner training and volunteer mobilization
• Community resilience and recovery programs
• Partnerships with fire departments, nonprofits, and professional organizations
• Education around environmental health and disaster recovery

In recent years, IHAN has expanded its focus on firefighter health and environmental toxic exposure recovery. Firefighters are facing increasing long-term health impacts from repeated exposure to wildfire smoke, toxic chemicals, carcinogens, and chronic stress. Through our partnership with the Volunteer Fire Foundation and fire departments across California, we have developed specialized programs to support firefighter wellbeing, detoxification, resilience, and long-term recovery.

To date, IHAN and our partners have:
• Delivered more than 6,600 integrative health treatments
• Supported more than 2,200 firefighters
• Coordinated multiple firefighter detoxification cohorts
• Mobilized hundreds of volunteer practitioners
• Responded to numerous California wildfires and disasters
• Developed clinical trainings focused on firefighter toxic exposure and disaster recovery

Our programs are made possible through collaboration, volunteerism, and community support. We work alongside fire departments, community organizations, integrative practitioners, wellness professionals, and philanthropic partners to expand access to care for those who often fall through the cracks of traditional systems.
