Ensuring Accountability for Gross Human Rights Violations
In response to the ongoing conflicts around the world and their deleterious impact on human rights, the ICJ has made accountability for gross human rights and serious humanitarian law violations among our highest priorities. In conflict and post-conflict countries around the world, our in-country teams are supported by the Commissioners to provide support and training to legal professionals, human rights defenders and civil society organisations. We are then able to share unique legal and strategic analyses at the national, regional and international mechanisms to ensure victims of serious human rights and humanitarian law violations receive justice. We are also supporting the development of the Convention on Crimes against Humanity, as well as efforts to strengthen and improve the effectiveness of international accountability mechanisms, including the establishment of a Standing Independent Investigative Mechanism (SIM). We are supported exclusively through donations and grants.
