Help Turn a House into a Home

Help us raise $729 for a Rheem tank water heater* for a new home for 15 young people preparing for independent life.

In March 2027, Hogar María Luisa will open a new home for 15 young people who grew up in residential care after experiencing violence, abuse, or severe neglect.

As they approach adulthood, they face a challenge most young people never have to face: beginning adult life without a family they can rely on.

Our Pre-Independent Living Homes give them the time, support, and tools they need to prepare for that transition. Here, they can finish school, find their first job, learn to manage money and a household, and build a network of people who will continue to be there for them.

Now we need to turn this new house into a home.

Our first goal: $729 for a water heater.

A water heater may seem like a small thing compared with everything it takes to start an independent life. But a home is also built from the everyday things that make it possible to live, study, rest—and feel at home.

Every contribution brings us closer to $729 and brings 15 young people one step closer to having a home where they can prepare for their future.

Once we reach this goal, we’ll share the result and begin raising funds for the second water heater the house needs.

Because growing up shouldn’t mean being left on your own.

*The Rheem water heater we need is a 150-liter (approximately 40-gallon) storage tank that heats and stores water for everyday use in the home, providing hot water for showers, washing and other daily needs.
