Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.

In over 70 countries around the world, MSF saves lives by providing medical aid where it is needed most—in armed conflicts, epidemics, natural disasters, and other crises.  The people who work for MSF are doctors, nurses, midwives, epidemiologists, water-and-sanitation experts and many others who combine their professional expertise with a commitment to the world’s most vulnerable people.  Each year, these medical teams run close to 470 projects where they care for millions of people.  

As an organization, MSF is neutral and operates independently of any political, military, or religious agendas. It does not take sides in armed conflicts, provides care based on needs alone, and advocates for increased independent access to victims of conflict and disaster as required under international humanitarian law. Medical teams conduct evaluations on the ground to determine a population's medical needs before opening programs, aiming to fill gaps that exist (rather than replicating services that are already offered) or reach communities that are not being assisted.  Over the years, the organization has been the recipient of several awards that recognize its work, including the 1998 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize, the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize, the 2012 J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding, the 2015 Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award, and the 2017 Pardes Humanitarian Prize for Mental Health.

And the dream of helping those who are in need whoever they are and whatever the cost and time is still alive, Mersal has worked over the past six years on getting close to its patients throughout their treatment journey.

As famine tightens its grip and markets collapse, Gaza Soup Kitchen is still boiling pots—feeding 1,000 people every day with dignity and determination.

We were the first soup kitchen in North Gaza to lean on local farmers and forage from nature to keep people alive. When others paused, we adapted. When supplies ran out, we improvised.

Today, we operate across 11 kitchens, run a community clinic, and deliver clean water and hot meals to hospitals—even in the hardest-hit zones.

This is survival work, done by people living through the very crisis they’re responding to.

Founded in 1989, Saath Charitable Trust began with a simple idea — to help people living in slums and low-income areas live with dignity and hope. Over the years, Saath has grown into a trusted organisation that works closely with communities to make them stronger, self-reliant, and full of opportunities. Saath believes that poverty is not just about a lack of money — it is also about a lack of access, awareness, and opportunity. That is why our approach is **“Integrated Community Development.”** This means that instead of focusing on just one issue, we work on multiple needs together — education, health, livelihoods, housing, financial inclusion, and social empowerment. We bring all these under one roof so that people can improve their lives in every way. 

Our journey started in Ahmedabad, and to date Saath has worked across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, reaching over  1 million+ individuals through direct programs and partnerships. What makes Saath different is that we don’t just work for people, we work with them. Communities participate in planning and implementing programs, co-investing their time, effort, and resources. This sense of ownership ensures that the change lasts.

**What We Do:**

**Education & Early Childhood Care:** Saath runs Balghars (community-based preschools) and Child Friendly Spaces (classes on construction sites) where young children learn, play, and grow in a safe environment. These centres also help working mothers by providing a secure space for their children during the day. We focus on early learning, nutrition, and emotional development so that every child enters school with confidence. 

**Livelihoods & Skill Development:** Through programs like Udaan, Business Gym, and RWeaves, Saath helps youth, women, and artisans build sustainable incomes. We train youth in market-relevant skills, support women entrepreneurs to grow small businesses, and connect traditional artisans to modern markets. Many of our trainees have gone on to start small enterprises, secure stable jobs, or return to education. 

**Urban Development & Housing:** We believe every family deserves a safe home and a healthy neighbourhood. Saath works in slum communities to improve housing, sanitation, and access to basic services like clean water, waste management, and electricity. Our Urban Resource Centres act as community hubs where people can get information, government linkages, and guidance for better living conditions. 

**Health:** We organise health camps, awareness drives, and nutrition programs to promote overall well-being, especially for women and children. 

**Financial Inclusion & Women Empowerment:** Saath believes financial independence is the first step toward empowerment. Our Saath Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies help women save, access small loans, and manage their finances confidently. Thousands of women have used these services to start small businesses, educate their children, and secure their families’ futures. 

**Community Engagement & Governance:** Saath works to strengthen local leadership through initiatives like Urban Resource Centres. We support community people in accessing government schemes, documentation, and entitlements — making sure no one is left behind.

Hearts Over Hate

A community for entrepreneurs in recovery from addiction to grow their businesses while staying sober and helping others.

For over a decade, I battled alcoholism and addiction. I couldn’t stop—even when I wanted to. I drank against my own will. It cost me relationships, clarity, peace… and nearly my freedom.

In 2013, after a DUI and an arrest, I was given an ultimatum: **jail or rehab**. At the time, it felt like the worst moment of my life. Looking back, it was the turning point that saved it.

After 30 days in rehab and a newfound outlook on life. I made the best and hardest decision of my life to stay sober.

By 2014, with one year sober, I launched my first real company. From the outside, I looked like I had it all together, but inside, I was juggling a storm. Running a business, managing employees, delivering for clients—and all the while, trying to surrender to God’s will while still holding tight to control. There were so many days drinking felt like the only answer.

And the environment didn’t help.

Networking events? Happy hours.
Conferences? Open bars.
Entrepreneur culture? Work hard, play harder.
But for people like us alcoholics and addicts that “play” nearly destroyed us.

I’ve always loved the concept of helping others, which is the basis of 12-step recovery. We help others, and in turn, our lives get better. I applied those principles in helping other entrepreneurs and had seen the impact that it was having in their lives, their family’s lives, and their employee’s lives.

Fast forward to 2023: I exited my company successfully. I had resources, time, and space to reflect. I asked myself, “What would I do every day if money didn’t matter?” and the answer was clear:

**I’d dedicate my life to helping other entrepreneurs in recovery grow their businesses and stay sober.**

I already had sponsees who were founders. My sponsor ran a business. We’d have powerful, honest conversations about sobriety and entrepreneurship but always behind closed doors. It never felt appropriate to bring these discussions into a 12 step meeting… and they didn’t belong at a business mastermind either.

There had to be a better way.
A place where recovery and business could coexist.
Where we could talk about cash flow *and* cravings.
Marketing funnels *and* mental health.
Growth *and* grace.

So I built the thing I couldn’t find. The thing that I wish existed in the previous decade of building my own company and the very lonely lows and bittersweet highs that came along with being in recovery at the same time.

The first meeting started as a group text of fellow entrepreneur friends and a random post on Facebook for anyone with over $250k in revenue and one year of sobriety to join. I didn’t expect much, maybe a few of my friends to pop in and say hi and it would eventually fizzle out. But it didn’t…

Strangers joined the group, and then immediately after were begging for more (typical addict tendency haha).

I realized I had something that wasn’t just a little one-off thing, but the potential for something huge.

At the time of forming the group, I had made a list of things “If X happens, keep going, if Y happens, quit.” One of the long shot items in the keep going list was if a random stranger reached out and said this is a great idea, that would be enough outside validation to keep going.

After the second meeting, I had a random DM from an old account manager from a software we hadn’t used in years reach out to me saying that it was an incredible concept and that they grew up in a house of addiction and entrepreneurship. She said what we were doing was incredible and something she wished her father had when she was growing up… That hit hard.

The same day, I received another dm from a newsletter asking for an interview to learn more about Sober Founders and what we were doing. The idea got a fast proof of concept and has been growing ever since.

What started as a side project became a full-blown nonprofit a 501(c)(3)—thanks to the support of early members, generous donors, and the undeniable impact we were having on each other’s lives.

Pediatric malnutrition treatment – reimagined for scale.

Taimaka has reimagined pediatric malnutrition treatment to make it **more cost-effective and scalable**. We’ve developed a malnutrition treatment model that is:

2. Leverages digitally-enabled community health workers (CHWs) to deliver care to the most vulnerable communities. 

So far, we’ve used our model to treat 6,000+ children out of existing government hospitals in northeastern Nigeria with world-class recovery rates of 95%+. Cuddles Foundation nourishes children in their fight against cancer. Because #Foodheals



**Feed Children. Starve Cancer.**

Every year, approximately 76,000 children in India may develop cancer, with 58% of them being severely malnourished at the time of diagnosis. For these children, nutrition can mean the difference between life and death. Every child deserves a chance at a cure, and we are here to make that happen.

At Cuddles Foundation, we partner with over 40 government and charity cancer hospitals to support children through our FoodHeals program. Our mission is to ensure that children undergoing cancer therapy receive comprehensive nutritional support. This includes access to trained clinical pediatric nutritionists, expert dietary counsel, supplements, hot meals, monthly ration baskets, and caregiver support. Good food helps the medicine work!

This multi-pronged approach tackles a simple but often ignored aspect of a child’s successful recovery from cancer. While undergoing treatment, it is essential that children have freshly prepared, nutritious food in sufficient quantity and don't stay hungry for long periods. The impact of our work is evident. When part of the FoodHeals Program, 82%* of patients improved or maintained their nutritional status, despite cancer therapy like chemotherapy or radiation.

Additionally, 96% of children followed up* on their treatment plan when nutrition was a part of it, demonstrating the program’s effectiveness. Besides the love and affection of our patients, their families, and our supporters, we’ve won some prestigious awards along the way. This includes the National Award for Child Welfare (2015-16), the Akshaya Patra and UN Global Compact Award (2018) and most recently we received the Global CSR & ESG Awards 2024 - Top 10 Best NGOs of the Year (2024).

Extending and improving the lives of people with ALK+ lung cancer by raising funds for research and patient support programs.

**Our Vision**

We envision a world where ALK+ lung cancer is a chronic or even curable condition and the next person diagnosed with lung cancer does not have to live under the current stigma.

**Our Start**

\#SweatForBreath started as a grassroots fundraising campaign during Lung Cancer Awareness Month in 2023. After being diagnosed with Stage IV ALK+ lung cancer in November 2022, David Cornbrooks became keenly aware that he was benefiting from the selfless fundraising and awareness efforts of the patients before him.

The \#SweatForBreath campaign in 2023 became David, and his wife, Lisa’s, way to help the next generation ALK+ lung cancer patients.

\#SweatForBreath accelerated beyond more than just a typical fundraiser.  The initiative quickly evolved into a community of patients, caregivers, family, and friends seeking to make David and Lisa's vision a reality and the road to that vision more tolerable. People donated, sweat at the in-person cycle event, posted on social media, and helped fundraise through organizing group walks, selling art, "gifting" donations on behalf of clients, and much more.

Their success in 2023 compelled David and Lisa to officially transition the \#SweatForBreath campaign into the Sweat For Breath Foundation, operating through a fiscal sponsorship with Players Philanthropy Fund, a Maryland charitable trust recognized by IRS as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Federal Tax ID: 27-6601178).

**Our Impact**

Since 2023, over **1,450 donors** have given nearly **$400,000** to the Foundation (or its predecessor campaign). 100% of the proceeds have gone directly to The Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Center in Baltimore, MD to support Dr. Vincent Lam’s ALK+ lung cancer research.

This support provided the critical funding needed to launch Dr. Lam’s clinic trial, which will evaluate the safety of a cancer peptide vaccine to prevent or delay acquired resistance in advanced ALK+ lung cancer patients currently on ALK targeted therapy. Dr. Lam’s vaccine is the **first ALK+ vaccine in the world** to be tested in a clinical trial. Dr. Lam administered the vaccine to the first patient **in clinic on May 13, 2024**!

Does it work? There is strong evidence that distributing LLINs reduces child mortality and malaria cases. AMF conducts post-distribution surveys of completed distributions to determine whether LLINs have reached their intended destinations and how long they remain in good condition. AMF's post-distribution surveys have generally found positive results but have some methodological limitations. (More)

What do you get for your dollar? We estimate that the cost to purchase and distribute an AMF-funded net is $4.95, or $4.65 excluding in-kind contributions from governments. The numbers of deaths averted and other benefits of distributing LLINs are a function of a number of difficult-to-estimate factors, which we discuss in detail below. (More)

Is there room for more funding? We believe that AMF is likely to be constrained by funding. We estimate that AMF could use up to an additional $37.8 million to support LLIN distributions that will occur between now and late 2023. 

AMF is recommended because of its:

Focus on a program with excellent evidence of effectiveness and cost-effectiveness.
Processes for ensuring that nets reach their intended recipients and monitoring whether they remain in homes and in good condition over the long-term.
Room for more funding – we believe AMF will be able to use additional funds to deliver additional nets.
Transparency – AMF shares significant information about its work with us and we are able to closely follow and understand its work.

The cultivation, use, and trade of psychoactive substances — including psychedelics — has been a consistent aspect of human history, but prohibition, criminalization, and militarization — and their inherent oppression — have led to drastic consequences. The ongoing, global War on Drugs has been justified by bad science, racism, and fear for too long: it has led to mass incarceration; erosion of civil liberties; ecological damage; economic waste; and the public health polycrisis of adulteration, poisoning, and overdose. Many of these harmful effects have disproportionately impacted the most historically exploited and oppressed communities. Consequently, we believe societies worldwide have an obligation to account for and repair those harms, to the extent possible.
