Empowering 50 Rural Women through Micro-Loans

In the villages around Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh, hundreds of women wake up each day with the determination to provide for their families, but without the resources to start even a small business. Many of them are skilled—tailors, food vendors, or craft makers—but lack access to affordable credit. Traditional banks see them as “too small,” and local moneylenders charge crippling interest.
HEARDS has seen firsthand how a modest loan can transform a life. Through this project, we aim to provide micro-loans to 50 women from low-income households to start or grow their own income-generating ventures—such as tailoring, backyard poultry, food stalls, or grocery kiosks.
Each participant will receive:
· Seed capital (₹15,000–₹25,000) to invest in tools, raw materials, or inventory.
· Financial literacy training to manage income, expenses, and savings.
· Business mentorship from HEARDS’ experienced women’s empowerment team.
Our micro-loan program is not a one-time handout. It’s a revolving fund, meaning every repaid loan supports a new woman entrepreneur. This creates a chain reaction of empowerment across the community.
Why This Matters
In rural Andhra Pradesh, women’s employment opportunities are scarce. Yet, when a woman earns, she invests back into her family—food, schooling, healthcare, and better housing. Studies show that micro-credit programs can increase household income by 30–50% and significantly reduce poverty over time.
For us at HEARDS, this project is deeply personal. We’ve witnessed how women like Dorothy, a single mother who once struggled to feed her children, turned a small tailoring loan into a thriving business. Today she mentors other women in her village. Another beneficiary, Meena, used her micro-loan to buy goats. Within months, she had tripled her income and could finally send her daughter to school.
These stories remind us that dignity comes not from receiving aid, but from creating opportunity.
Who Will Benefit
· 50 direct women beneficiaries, aged 20–45, from marginalized communities in and around Chittoor District.
· Over 200 indirect beneficiaries—their families and dependents—will benefit from increased income and financial stability.
Impact Metrics
Donors’ contributions will translate directly into measurable change:
· ₹20,000 ($240) → Funds a complete micro-loan for one woman.
· ₹5,000 ($60) → Supports financial literacy and business training.
· ₹1,000 ($12) → Covers monitoring and mentorship visits for sustainability.
We expect by the end of the first year:
· 90% loan repayment rate.
· 50 women operating small enterprises.
· 200+ individuals indirectly benefiting from improved livelihoods.
Long-Term Sustainability
The project’s revolving fund ensures that your donation continues to empower new women year after year. HEARDS’ field officers will conduct monthly follow-ups, collect repayments, and reinvest funds into new micro-loans. Local women’s self-help groups will take part in decision-making, making the model fully community-owned and managed.
Why Support This Project
Your contribution doesn’t just give money—it creates a legacy of independence. A ₹20,000 micro-loan may seem small, but to a woman in rural Andhra Pradesh, it’s the seed of a lifelong livelihood. Together, we can help her stand tall, support her children’s education, and build a more self-reliant future for her family and community.
