A week ago, our rescue team at Fundación Temaikèn received an urgent call in the middle of the night: a young female marsh deer (Blastocerus dichotomus) had been found severely injured in the Paraná Delta, Buenos Aires, Argentina. We rushed to the scene and brought her to our Wildlife Hospital.

Her condition was critical. One of her legs was too damaged to save, and we had no choice but to perform an emergency amputation to keep her alive. Since then, she's been under constant veterinary care and we are evaluating the possibility of fitting her with a prosthetic limb to help her walk again and live a full life—just like any other marsh deer. That is our goal!

And this is only the beginning. She’s still very weak and faces a long road to recovery. She needs daily wound care, specialized food, intensive monitoring, and a team of committed professionals to support her every step of the way.

At Fundación Temaikèn, this rescue is part of a much larger mission.

The marsh deer is South America’s largest native deer and is classified as Endangered in Argentina. There are only an estimated 800 individuals left in the Paraná Delta, one of their last strongholds. These animals are threatened by habitat destruction, illegal hunting, and attacks by feral dogs.

That’s why, through our Delta Program and Species Recovery Program, we work to:

·         Rescue and rehabilitate injured marsh deer like her

·         Reintroduce them when possible into protected areas

·         Monitor populations in the wild

·         Restore their habitat

·         Raise awareness and involve local communities in conservation

💚 Today you can be part of this rescue—and help protect an entire species.

Your donation will support this deer’s recovery and strengthen our efforts to save the marsh deer and the unique wetland ecosystems they call home.

Thank you for believing in second chances—for her, and for nature.

Temaikèn Foundation promotes the conservation and restoration of biodiversity in Argentina.
