Founders Pledge Giving Season 2022

We live in a time of perils. Humanity faces large and growing risks, including natural and engineered pandemics, nuclear war, and threats from advanced artificial intelligence (AI). The Founders Pledge Global Catastrophic Risks (GCR) Fund makes time-sensitive, research-informed grants to avert disasters caused by the misuse of emerging technology and mitigate the risks of great power conflict — like a NATO-Russia nuclear war over Ukraine.

These global catastrophic risks have the potential to kill billions of humans alive today and in the future. Our new Fund is dedicated to mitigating them and, having just launched, needs your support to grow and begin making grants.

Global Catastrophic Risks (GCR) Fund

Of more than 643,000 people killed by malaria each year, 70% are children under five. Against Malaria Foundation (AMF) can save the life of a child for roughly $4,000 through its work funding and distributing insecticide-treated bed nets, the most effective way to prevent malaria.

Support AMF now to help them achieve universal bed net coverage in Haut Uele in 2023. Haut Uele is one of the worst-affected regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in turn one of the two countries hardest-hit by malaria globally. At about $2 per net, and with 1.4 million nets needed to cover all sleeping spaces across a population of 2.5 million, the total project will cost $3.42 million. We’re trying to raise as much money as possible to ensure it’s a success!

Against Malaria Foundation (AMF)

Hundreds of millions of people around the world suffer from depressive disorders, and 85% of those in low-income countries receive no treatment. StrongMinds, through a unique community-based model of talk therapy, can avert one year of severe major depression among vulnerable women and young people in Uganda at a cost of $250 per person.

After a recent re-evaluation, we are even more confident in the effectiveness of their model. We believe their Interpersonal Group Psychotherapy (IPT-G) improves rates of employment, nutrition, physical health, housing and children’s education. They need your help to achieve their mission of treating 80,000 women and adolescents in the coming year, and to scale up significantly. This is a high leverage opportunity to help take StrongMinds' work to the next level.
