The Foundation was created in 2018 under the aegis of Fondation Française de l'Ordre de Malte. It followed the launch of Maison de la Paix, a non profit organization in 2012 by the diocese of Coutances and Avranches in Normandy and located in Sainte Mère Eglise, first city to be liberated by the American soldiers on June 6 1944. Visited by thousand of tourists every year and especially by American veterans and their families, who come to honor the memory of soldiers who died for the liberation of Europe. With the objective of contributing to the promotion of peace and reconciliation, cultural and spiritual, the construction of a peace building was deemed necessary to house the activities like conferences, exhibitions, festival, concerts etc. The Sainte-Mère-Eglise Foundation, under the aegis of the French Foundation of the Order of Malta (FFOM), takes its name from the emblematic village liberated by the Americans in 1944. Indeed, it is in this symbolic setting that it works daily to promote, fund and develop awareness and educational programs about peace, for all men and women, with no regard to origin or religion, inspired only by charity and christian brotherhood. Each year, several hundred thousand visitors discover vestiges left from the war. Museums and Memorial ceremonies draw crowds. How accompany this movement not with a backward- looking vision but with a vision founded in a renewed commitment to the building and service of peace.
