The 5th Floor Renovation

Your donation will contribute directly to Phase 2 of the Centennial Campaign: The Renovation of the 5th Floor - Modernizing the FEU's historic artists' studios and honoring the legacy of the nearly 100 year old artistic residency.

This transformative initiaitve will reimagine and refresh the historic artist studios of the Art Deco building in keeping with the FEU’s first mandate: Stewardship. It offers the rare opportunity to preserve a unique Franco-American cultural legacy. For nearly a century, the historic 5th Floor studios at the Fondation des États-Unis have provided artists and scholars with a unique place to live, create, and collaborate in Paris. The floor includes studios that range from 10–40 m² and share common kitchen and bathroom facilities. Today, through reports from residents and maintenance reviews, the 5th Floor demonstrates aging infrastructure, limiting use of the studios and threatening the future of the residency. Without renovation, a cornerstone of Franco-American exchange risks being reduced. 

This renovation project will demonstrate how heritage buildings can be reimagined to serve American artistic creation in Paris through:

• Adaptive Reuse: Restore heritage architecture for contemporary creative life.
• Sustainable Renovation: Eco- and energy-conscious preservation of a historic building.
• Contemporary Artist Residency Design: Spaces built for collaboration, community, and artistic exchange for American artists.
