Empowering Africa’s Next Generation of Storytellers

Filamujuani Foundation trains youth to gain skills that they can use to earn a livable wage in order to combat youth unemployment.

Founded in 2008, Filamujuani Foundation is a Nairobi-based youth-led media arts organisation whose mission is to create jobs and opportunities for Africa’s youth through storytelling and the creative industries.

By offering training in filmmaking, photography, and media production to young people from vulnerable communities, Filamujuani empowers them to tell their own stories, earn income, and build purposeful careers. Over the years, the organisation has supported hundreds of youth who have gone on to work in film, documentary, television, commercial photography, and content creation.

Filamujuani is also a proud skilling partner in the Sanara Program, an initiative designed to foster healing, resilience, and social transformation through storytelling. Within Sanara, the Foundation trains and mentors youth and community members to use film and digital media as tools for advocacy, dialogue, and self-expression. Through this work, participants are equipped not only with technical production skills but also with the capacity to document lived experiences, address social issues, and inspire change within their communities.

To extend its impact beyond training, Filamujuani established Enea.Biz — a social enterprise that connects its skilled alumni to paid opportunities with brands, NGOs, and social-impact organisations. Enea.Biz serves as a bridge between training and employment, ensuring that young creatives gain practical experience, build sustainable careers, and contribute to Kenya’s growing creative economy.

With a growing alumni network and strong partnerships, Filamujuani continues to advance toward its vision of dignified and prosperous lives for Africa’s youth — through inclusive creative training programmes, production opportunities, and long-term pathways to employment and empowerment.
