The area and the People:
The Project area in Tamil Nadu in India is generally characterized as backward lacking development activities, natural resources and work opportunities. People in rural parts are mostly agricultural coolies, landless laborers, daily wage earners and people who depend on cattle rearing. Lack of sufficient rain makes the area very much dry and irrigation is a thankless job. Vast stretches of land remain barren for want of agricultural activities. The families are big with the parents and grand parents live under one roof with all their children. There is always liveliness and love flowing with more number of adults and children living in one home depicting typical rural life in India.
Education:
The present generation is the first generation learners in this area as the past ones are not educated. Now there are more schools established and there is avid interest among children to go to schools and even to colleges after school years. The problem is there are no opportunities to go for higher education because of lack of colleges in their midst. As a result, they end up with completing school finals and still accompany their parents to work places to enhance family income.
Health Care precariously very low:
More number of children coupled with joint family system with old aged people cramped in small houses has its own health care problems. Children and aged ones are prone to falling ill more often. But lack of Health Care facilities even for minor illness make them feel the pain excruciatingly. There are primary Health Centres in the area but they are not adequately equipped. District Head Quarters Hospitals are miles away and they too are more crowded with patients flocking from all parts to get quality Health Care. Taking advantage of the pathetic situation a number of quakes are minting money in the name of treatment. The poor people fall victims to their trap as they have no other go except availing the kind of crude treatment the quacks are giving.
DOVE Community Health Centre:
DOVE Health Centre is in existence for a decade in the project area. Headed by a Surgeon and support staff. DOVE Health Centre is the only health care facility covering a wide area with a large number of rural population. Giving treatment, conducting periodical Medical Camps and taking preventive measures are the services being provided by DOVE Health Centre for the poor village people in the surrounding area. During pandemic the DOVE Health team did remarkably well in containing the spread of the disease and provided quality treatment. A large section of people especially from marginalized communities are availing the Health Care Services provided by DOVE Health Centre. From children to old aged people there is proper medical help with love and care from the medical staff.
Full Fledged Hospital is very much needed:
There is an emergency situation existing whereby the Medical facilities presently available are pathetically inadequate in DOVE Health Centre to give inpatient treatment and critical care. Usually we refer such patients to the District Government Hospitals which takes precious time and money from the poor people living in the Project area. A well equipped hospital can take inpatients and provide advanced treatment and save precious lives. There are more number of people who can get treated if DOVE Health Centre is upgraded into fully equipped Hospital. Presently we are able to give first aid treatment only to emergency patients who come with Heart attack symptoms and other critical conditions. Lack of fully equipped labs, X-Ray and scan facilities is a big handicap to give better treatment. Referring the critically ill patients to District Hospitals will take time which has its own risk factors. People could not afford money to go for advanced treatment in private hospitals which is a very costly affair.
Budget:
The total budget estimated for upgrading the DOVE Health Centre comes around 9 crore INR (90000000 INR) (1092187 USD)

The expenditure includes construction of patient rooms, emergency block, casualty, operation theatre, Doctor's consultation rooms, Blood investigation labs, X-Ray and Scan facilities.
Benefits Expected:

• The benefits of setting up of a specialty DOVE Hospital have been manifold with advanced treatments for more number of patients than what is being availed at present.
• Specialized Doctors can be called for and they can give treatment for people who are critically ill.
• Instead of referring the critically ill patients to far away hospitals, we can provide advanced treatment at DOVE Hospital itself.
• Most importantly, Pregnant cases can be taken up who are otherwise give deliveries in their houses. We can give follow up treatments thereby ensuring safe deliveries and proper monitoring of babies and mothers
