Detroit Hives Giving Tuesday Fundraiser
Detroit Hives; a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 2017 whose mission to improve communities for people and pollinators started with its first project, The East Warren Apiary. We transformed a ten year old vacant lot that now serves as an educational apiary. What once was vacant now serves Detroit families within the 48214 zip code through educational programming, public events/activities, and pollinator conservation services that help combat blight and food insecurity.
This then, our organization increased its capacity to serve in over 20 locations in Detroit. Detroit Hives has worked to establish community partnerships, skilled volunteers, and a governing board to properly complete our newest proposed project, The State Fair & Hoover Pollinator Parkway: Entails the reactivation of a vacant 32,000 commercial parking lot that benefit both people and pollinator.
Our anticipated impact of the project is to provide a social, environmental, and financial benefit to the 48205 community. The State Fair & Hoover Pollinator Parkway will serve as a centralized location for community resources and green infrastructure to address climate inequity and food insecurity for under represented communities. We will service over 2,000 local minority, disabled, and LGBT residents through our quarterly resource/events.
Our budget to complete the State Fair and Hoover Pollinator Parkway is $82,550.00. With support from Executive Leadership, local foundations, community supporters and private donors we have secured $48,500. Currently, we are applying for additional grants, and have launched this Giving Tuesdays campaign to raise $10,000 to complete phase 2 of our project.
