Se Puede: Transforming Education in Chile
The educational crisis in Chile is reaching alarming levels. Students are struggling with severe academic gaps: a 62-point deficit in math and a 54-point deficit in reading. An overwhelming 96% of first graders can’t recognize letters, and 56% fail to meet basic competencies. With 50,814 students dropping out last year, we face a critical moment for change. But there’s hope.
Introducing Project Se Puede from Desafio Levantemos Chile: a revolutionary initiative inspired by the successful Sobral case in Brazil. They aim to bring transformative educational reform to Perquenco, a region with dire need. With the right support, they can close the educational gaps and ensure every student achieves their full potential.
Why We Need Your Support:
- Urgent Need for Change: Chile’s education system shows a clear correlation between academic gaps and long-term socio-economic impacts, including reduced future income and increased likelihood of criminal behavior.
- Proven Model: Our approach is based on the Sobral model, which has been validated by the World Bank and achieved significant improvements in literacy and educational outcomes in Brazil.
- Clear Goals: We aim to achieve 90% attendance, 100% literacy in first grade, and eliminate reading lag by sixth grade by 2028. Our target is to boost SIMCE scores to 300 points.
- Strategic Implementation: Starting in Perquenco, a region with socio-economic conditions similar to Sobral, our project will use community involvement and strong local partnerships to drive success.
How You Can Help:
To fund our ambitious plan for 2025-2028, we need annual support of approximately USD 863,000.00 (UF 19,200). This will cover the cost of education for 631 children, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive.
Right now, students are falling behind with severe educational gaps, but with your support, they will achieve their full potential and excel.
