Our justice system is broken. Punitive tactics trap low-income people and people of color in endless cycles of harm. But Community Works (CW) is here to radically reduce incarceration and heal the deep wounds it leaves behind. Over 75% of our staff are system-impacted, and 40% are formerly incarcerated. We put the power back where it belongs: in the hands of the people most affected. This holiday season is a critical moment. We need your help to hit our urgent goal of $100,000 by December 31st. Your gift supports our staff and secures our core programs: restorative justice, mental wellness, and arts-based practices. Your Gift Fuels Healing: Impact Stories ● Systemic Dignity for Reentry: Our Restorative Reentry program gives people a fair shot after incarceration. For example, M.S., a father with a long history of incarceration, secured a full-time job as a youth mentor, enrolled in college, and is now an example to others. We’ve also helped clients like A.C. and M.M. secure permanent supportive housing (PSH) and essential documents after decades in the system. ● Safety is Survivor-Centered: Our Survivor Empowerment (SEP) and Restoration (SRP) programs reject the idea that safety comes from incarceration. True safety comes from healing. We helped a single mother and native Mayan speaker, M.B., successfully obtain a work permit and work toward reuniting with her children. We also helped survivors like N.G. and C.M. regain custody of their children and successfully secure restraining orders against abusers. This is an investment in systemic repair.
