The Founders Pledge Climate Fund exists to leverage each dollar and fund the most effective, neglected climate solutions.

Climate change is an incredibly complex problem borne out of how we produce and consume energy; it's intertwined with challenges of economic development, energy poverty, and emissions-fueled air pollution. It is an environmental and humanitarian crisis we must urgently address.

We aim to take a holistic approach that recognizes the global nature of this challenge and the fact that, despite its urgency, we are still in the early days of climate action. We address the worst-case scenarios of climate damage, and look for solutions that can reduce current carbon emissions and accelerate the transition to clean energy to meet global demand, especially in developing countries. Through the Fund, we:

- Accelerate innovation in neglected technologies
- Catalytically grow the most effective climate organizations
- Promote policy leadership and paradigm shaping

### Our Approach to Grantmaking
When evaluating potential grants, we consider several key points:

- **Counterfactual impact.** Our grants are designed to create a meaningful outcome that would not otherwise have happened. This means that you can rely on the Funds to create meaningful, real change, rather than just maintaining the status quo.
- **Impact-driven philanthropy.** This fund prioritizes the highest-impact solutions to challenges. We assess where the gaps are, which opportunities may be neglected by other funders, and where the biggest wins are in terms of making the biggest difference.
- **The organization’s funding gap.** Not all organizations are set up to scale up their programming and many can’t productively absorb large amounts of unsolicited funding. We evaluate all potential grantees’ capacity for growth and consider how much money they could put to good use.
- **Organizational strength.** Particularly with unrestricted funding, it’s important to have trust in the leadership and capacity of the organizations we support. We look at their track record of success and their transparency about failures as well as successes, and we only support those organizations which are exceptionally well run.
- **Time-critical opportunities and funding certainty.** While Founders Pledge members give to our top climate charities regularly, sometimes there are time-critical opportunities which require fast decisions. We will use the Fund to make grants that enable such short-term opportunities and stability for high-impact funding opportunities thereby increasing the impact compared to individual giving to specific organizations.
- **Portfolio approach.** Because most climate damage comes from particular severe outcomes – with a world of 4 degrees of warming being much worse than twice as bad as a world with 2 degrees – and because every particular strategy – such as energy innovation – might underdeliver, we pursue a portfolio approach to maximize positive impact. This means we will diversify our bets in ways that, when one approach fails (such as energy innovation), the others we promote (such as carbon removal) can be expected to be particularly important and still available.

### Frequently-Asked Questions

**Can charities apply for money from the Fund?**
The Funds do not generally accept applications from charities, and we request that charities do not send unsolicited applications for funding. If the Fund Managers choose to open up an application round, this will be publicized.

**How frequently will you make grants from the Fund?**
In general, Fund Managers will review grantmaking decisions on a quarterly basis. Decisions will be made based on the value of Funds and the available options for high-impact grantmaking. We may disburse funds outside of quarterly review dates if we become aware of a particularly promising and time-sensitive funding.

**How will my contribution be used?**
All funds are granted out. The Fund is not an investment vehicle. The Fund does not use any percentage of contributions to cover staff time or other overhead costs. Every dollar contributed to the Fund will be used to make grants directly to end-user organizations creating a real difference.

**Food Systems**

Access Agriculture supports the transitioning to healthy, resilient and just food systems by enabling access to quality learning videos that support agroecology, organic and regenerative agriculture. We blend scientific knowledge with indigenous knowledge and put local voices at the centre of a sustainable food future. Our holistic approach covers climate resilience, agrobiodiversity, nutrition, One Health, food processing, ethical marketing and local governance, empowering communities to make informed decisions from farm to fork that benefit the environment, food security and livelihoods.

Donations will be used to support locally and regionally relevant educational content creation to support healthy food production, processing and marketing.

**Education**

Access Agriculture strengthens primary, secondary, tertiary and non-formal education through smart digital tools, agroecological, and discovery-based learning videos in local languages. We enable intergenerational learning and empower teachers, youth and women. Combined with school gardens, our blended learning approach fosters traditional knowledge, school-community engagement and transformational education. We bridge formal and non-formal systems, nurturing curiosity and life skills essential for a sustainable, inclusive future, and instilling the value of environmental stewardship in the minds of youth.

Financial support will be used to strengthen primary, secondary and tertiary education institutes. We will equip them with solar-powered smart projectors that contain our entire video library off-line, build digital skills of teachers and students, and set up school gardens to enable blended learning. To enable teachers to also use the projector in neighbouring schools, we will also provide them with Buffalo Bicycles.

**Entrepreneurship**

Access Agriculture empowers rural women and youth who lack access to quality education and decent job opportunities to become digitally-equipped agricultural advisors, called Entrepreneurs for Rural Access. Using solar-powered smart projectors, our entrepreneurs bring knowledge on agroecology and organic food production, processing, marketing, value addition and business skills to vulnerable farming communities to help them adapt to climate challenges and grow their incomes. By making knowledge accessible and practical, we stimulate local economies, foster youth engagement in agriculture and strengthen sustainable agri-food systems with a strong focus on equity and innovation.

Donations will be used to support young, rural people, women in particular, to establish thriving enterprises in the food sector.

**South-South Learning**

Access Agriculture, a global leader in quality, curated learning videos, empowers thousands of local organisations through digital tools using artificial intelligence for online and offline last mile delivery in a cost-effective way. By offering content in over 100 local and regional languages, Access Agriculture ensures culturally relevant South-South learning, fostering exceptional accessibility and inclusivity. Through our online platform, solar-powered smart projectors, mobile app and a network of mass media houses, we enable knowledge exchange across borders. 

Donations will be used to make quality educational videos available in more local languages to ensure people in remote areas, who are deprived of learning opportunities, have a chance to improve their livelihoods by getting inspiration from fellow farmers from across the Global South.

We develop community-led, circular solutions to end plastic pollution in remote coastal areas, grounded in local heritage.

We are an East African circular economy movement that in 2018 built the world’s first 100% recycled plastic sailing dhow.  Built from 10 tonnes of beach plastic, it was covered in 30,000 pieces of discarded flipflops collected from Kenyas beaches, hence its name 'The Flipflopi'. 

We employ a “full-systems” approach to beating plastic pollution through 

(1) education and awareness campaigns, 

(2) waste-plastic innovation rooted in heritage, and 

(3) influencing legislative change to ban single-use plastics. 

Over the course of three expeditions, the Flipflopi sailing boat has proved to be an exceptional campaign tool to catalyse engagement and action all three of the above focus areas. Watch our latest video, "[Stubborn Optimism - A Plastic Revolution" 
](https://youtu.be/RjVd7RR\_vPs?si=5XrC37OrODfvgnZJ)The 2019 Lamu to Zanzibar expedition, conducted in partnership with UN Environment, brought international media attention - 890 million people saw our message, we hosted the presidents and government ministers on the boat, and played a central role in national plastic bag bans that came into effect in both Kenya and Tanzania shortly after our campaign.

In 2020 Flipflopi Co-founder was awarded Kenya’s highest civilian honour for his contribution to preserving Kenya's Swahili culture and his environmental campaigning.  

In 2022, Flipflopi was awarded the FCDO’s prestigious SMEP Grant to tackle marine ecosystem health challenges which led to the creation of an innovative community-centered programme that is ‘closing the loop’ on waste plastic in the Lamu Archipelago (on the coast of northern Kenya) by combining indigenous knowledge of boatbuilding with modern innovation.  In a 24 month perirod we have collected 288 tonnes of plastic from the enviroment within the Lamu region. 

In 2022 we set up a Heritage Boat Building centre that runs pioneering classes teaching Dhow building and traditional craftsmanship to mixed gender classes of young people from Lamu County.  Students on these 12 week courses have built everything from ornately carved traditional Lamu chairs to Swahili Dhows – all from recycled plastic lumber instead of wood.  

In 2023, The Flipflopi team met UK Monarch King Charles whilst on a visit to Kenya, presenting him with an elegant traditional Swahili throne made entirely from recycled beach plastic.  It made headlines around the world. 

To date Flipflopi activity has principally taken place within Kenya, and to a lesser extent, in neighbouring countries Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.  In 2025 we are turning our attention to globally scaling the many valuable lessons we have learned about how to create a circular economy for plastic waste.

In 2025 we begin our most ambitious campaign yet – first we will construct a 120 tonne, 24 metre long traditional Lamu Dhow (again, built entirely from recycled plastic) and then we embark on a global expedition that will convene the action we need globally to see a WORLD WITHOUT SINGLE USE PLASTIC.

FORRAD works with vulnerable communities to build water, agriculture, and nutrition security in the face of climate change.

**About FORRAD**

The **Foundation for Rural Recovery and Development (FORRAD)** was established in Delhi in 1980 with the objective of promoting, supporting, and coordinating initiatives in sustainable agriculture and the protection of natural resources. Over the past four decades, FORRAD has extended technical and financial support to more than 450 grassroots projects across rural India, building strong partnerships with local communities and organizations.

FORRAD’s work focuses on the needs of smallholder farmers, sharecroppers, and the most vulnerable and marginalized communities. The groups that are the worst affected by the consequences of climate change, yet have the least access to resources and decision-making spaces. FORRAD places these communities at the center of its interventions, ensuring that they are the primary stakeholders who shape and often lead the initiatives.

Central to its work is strengthening **water security** and promoting **low-cost regenerative agriculture** as strategies to mitigate climate risks and restore ecological balance. FORRAD has revived and restored traditional water conservation and management practices, enabling communities to build resilience against droughts and erratic rainfall. More than aware of the nutrition crisis confronting the country and recognizing the close and inextricable link between water, agriculture, livelihoods, and health, FORRAD has, over the past five years, also integrated **nutrition security** as a core component of all its programmes.

Beyond water and agriculture, FORRAD engages with the intersecting issues of **girls’ education, and community healthcare**. All its projects are designed to be community-driven, with control over natural resources, information and related technologies vested in the local people themselves.

FORRAD’s guiding principles are rooted in equity and justice. The organisation ensures equal opportunities across gender, caste, and community. By creating spaces for the most disenfranchised voices to be heard and recognized, we work towards building resilient rural communities that can adapt to climate change, secure their livelihoods, and shape their own sustainable futures.

 **Education**

**JB Singh Kanya Shiksha Setu – A Learning Centre for Girls in Bihar**

The learning centre, established in 2017, now enrols 141 girls. All girls are enrolled in government schools, and the centre remains essential to address gaps in learning. Most students of the centre are first generation literate and do not have an environment that facilitates learning at home. The centre prepares students and their parents for ensuring learning at school. 140 children have been provided nutritious snacks at the learning centre. This has improved their parameters

 **Nutrition**

In an action-research project initiated in late 2023, 300 children were assessed for malnutrition in Nalanda district, Bihar. These children belonged to the most marginalised community groups. Children were administered B-complex vitamins, supplementary nutrition in the form of a locally produced protein and energy mix, and put on a deworming regimen. Each child received nutritional supplementation for over 15 months. While results are encouraging, the acute and chronic malnutrition has created stunting and the children did not show the signs of height and weight gain as in other states like Tamil Nadu.  

**Agriculture**

**Transitioning to Low External Input Sustainable Agriculture in Bihar**

700 acres of land in Nalanda district, Bihar transitioned to LEISA in the form of mixed cropping in the winter of 2025.

**Tree Plantation**

Over 1,600 saplings including mango, guava, banana, drumstick, hog plum (Amra), arjun (Kahua), jackfruit, mahogany, and teak were planted on pyne embankments in Bihar with farmers and local committees ensuring their protection.

**System of Rice Intensification in Thiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu**

96 farmers were motivated to use the **SRI method of rice cultivation** over their fields covering a total of 173 acres. SRI uses half the water that the traditional method does.

 **Water**

**1.      Pyne Restoration in Bihar**

FORRAD has restored 34 km of pynes (flood diversion channels from seasonal rivers) in Bihar creating a standing storage of 200 million litres of water serving a command area of 4000 acres of farmland.

2.      **Rainwater harvesting around the Sambhar Salt Lake (In partnership with Manthan Sanstha and Prayatna Sansthan)**
Storage capacity of 1.5 billion litres created through restoration of 31 rainwater harvesting structures in 20 villages around the Sambhar salt lake. Each year, about a billion litres of rainwater is collected. The reservoirs are maintained by the panchayats with support from district and state authorities.

3.      **Water storage for individual households (In partnership with Manthan Sanstha supported by individual donors)**
Water storage tanks of 10,000 litres each were constructed for 206 vulnerable families in remote hamlets lacking regular water supply. These communities now have means to store water from weekly tanker deliveries.

4.      **Watershed development in UP Bundelkhand (In partnership with Gramonnati Sansthan)**
Watershed development over 1,000 acres in Bilkhi and Tola Swayam villages in Uttar Pradesh transformed wasteland into productive farmland through farm-bunding, check-dams, ponds, and tree plantations.

5.      **Farm bunding** in Dikwaha began on 35 acres of land to conserve water and soil. It was expanded to 110 acres on demand from the community and mandated by panchayat, with farmers contributing 10% via shramdaan and five wells cleared for drought relief. In Baniya Tala, bunding started on 28 acres and extended by 18 more acres after panchayat interest, benefiting additional farmers.

6.      **The restoration of 39 km of traditional irrigation channels** in Tiruvallur district allowing for the use of surface water for irrigation thereby reducing dependence on groundwater and greatly benefitting the small-holder farmers who do not have their own tube-wells.

7.      **The cleaning of 60 public overhead tanks, (30,000 – 60,000 litres) and 16 school tanks** significantly reducing bacterial contamination in water. The tanks are now maintained by the local panchayat with occasional reminders from the community.

**8.      The cleaning, chlorination, and covering of 22 open wells** that had fallen into disuse with the coming of piped water and were being used as garbage dumps.

**Vaca Muerta Pipeline Funding Halted** (Latin America):
- Blocked financing from the Brazilian Development Bank for the Vaca Muerta gas pipeline expansion in Argentina, a testament to 350's effective advocacy and partnership with regional environmental groups (Page 26).

**Community Engagement and Legal Wins in the Amazon Basin** (Latin America):
- Successfully suspended public hearings and environmental licenses for gas exploration activities in the Azulão Field, showcasing the power of legal action and community mobilization in collaboration with the Amazon Coalition (Page 26).

**Global Advocacy and Solidarity at COP27**:

- In Egypt, during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), 350 significantly amplified the call for "Loss and Damage" to be recognized as a crucial agenda item. This was done in solidarity with global partners, linking environmental and human rights struggles and showcasing the critical role of grassroots activism from Pacific communities to African nations in shaping international climate policy (Page 9).

**Promotion of Community-Centered Renewable Energy**:
- Across Africa, with a spotlight on Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo, 350 advanced community-centered renewable energy systems. They emphasized equitable access and justice through the release of a renewable energy report on Africa Day. In collaboration with local partners, such as 350 G-ROC in Ghana, they advocated for sustainable energy solutions, showcasing a direct engagement with communities facing energy poverty and championing renewable alternatives (Pages 12, 14).

**Advocacy for Fracking Ban in Colombia**:
- In Colombia, 350's advocacy efforts contributed to the potential establishment of the first fracking ban in the Global South. This was achieved through collaboration with local organizations like the Corporación Regional Yariguíes (CRY), emphasizing the need for a just transition away from fossil fuels towards sustainable energy practices. Their work included educating hundreds on the impacts of fracking, demonstrating a deeply localized approach to global environmental advocacy (Page 27).

**Building and Strengthening Global Movements for Climate Action**:
- From the United States to Indonesia, 350 nurtured the development of global social movements to tackle climate change. They empowered communities through collaborations with diverse groups, including Indigenous communities in the Amazon Basin and youth activists in Asia. By sharing resources, offering training, and facilitating cross-regional partnerships, 350 highlighted the collective strength and diversity of the climate movement (Pages 3-4, 19, 26).

**Raising Awareness and Mobilizing Support for Renewable Energy**:
- Through targeted initiatives in Asia, specifically in Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Türkiye, 350 led efforts to raise awareness and mobilize support for the transition to renewable energy. They supported local communities in adopting solar and micro-hydro power solutions, as seen in the Climate Rangers Community's efforts in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and the Green New Deal initiative in Bangladesh. These campaigns underscored the importance of transitioning away from fossil fuels through local action and international solidarity (Pages 18, 19, 16).

What Is The Fountain ?

Imagine a global economic system truly aligned with care for the earth and the whole of life for the benefit of current and future generations, guided by the ancestral wisdom and technologies of cultures that have lived this way for the larger course of human history. This is the work of The Fountain.

There is growing awareness of the extraordinary wisdom originally developed and perennially sustained by the world’s ancestral indigenous peoples – peoples whose cultural genesis can be traced back to the original times. 

It is in the return to the sacred origins and principles of this ancestral wisdom – calling for the unification of all peoples with the earth – that a return to balance and sustainability is to be found. The vision of The Fountain, and the extraordinary sacredness of its origin and seed, is of partnership between sharing original teachings, conscious collaboration, and being in action to activate sacred economics and sacred territories.

Through the deep understanding, experience and relationships contained in its ecosystem, The Fountain exists to catalyse this journey to reconnection and ultimately to unification through its vision, mission, and values. 

The path forward is to restore a global economy of reciprocity inspired by nature and the sacred – bringing together conscious investors, philanthropists, whole system entrepreneurs, leaders on transformational economics and finance and holders of indigenous ecological knowledge. A multi-disciplinary, intercultural exchange united in service to the earth and future generations.

Despite all the progress over the last 15 years, the work has only taken place on 30% of GreenEarth's endowed land. and we have ways to go!  We can plant 40,000 more trees on our Phase 1 development of 32 hectares plus the need to build access roads, pathways and hiking trails, before we hop on over to our Phase 2 development of 75 hectares.   We can continue to scale up our livelihoods in organic agriculture by continuing to build the density of our raw materials  in hardwoods, fruit-bearing trees and ornamental plants, if we were to dream big and be a global purveyor of certified-organic products, which will bring in a tremendous amount of livelihood for the rural poor in our catchment community.  

Our **MISSION** is to preserve the environment, to adhere to sound and sustainable organic agricultural practices and to help in the alleviation of poverty through livelihood, education and community development.

It is our **VISION** to build a model eco-farming community on our land donation, skillfully master planned to allow for future-allocated areas for forests, schools, libraries, parks, marketplaces, sports and recreational facilities, community training centers, to name a few, all for the benefit of indigent farming families who have decided to hinge their life’s hopes for a brighter future on our mission and programs.
