Support high school students from ethnic minority in Vietnam

This project aims to support high school students from ethnic minority backgrounds in the provinces of Kontum and Gia Lai (Vietnam’s Central Highlands), helping them complete their secondary education and earn their first diploma, which opens the door to higher education or the workforce.

In many rural and mountainous areas of Vietnam, access to high school remains a real challenge. Unlike elementary school, high school is not mandatory. Many young people, particularly those from ethnic minorities, drop out at this stage. There are many reasons for this:

• The geographical distance from schools,

• The cost of schooling (uniforms, supplies, transportation),

• The language barrier (instruction in Vietnamese for students for whom it is not their native language),

• Economic and family pressures,

• Parents’ lack of educational background, as they themselves have little or no schooling.

It is precisely at this critical juncture that Children of the Mekong has chosen to take action.

✓ The 16 beneficiaries are housed in shelters, which provide them with safety, stability, and daily support—essential conditions for academic success.

✓ The young people receive comprehensive support, not just academic.

✓ The project relies on dedicated local leaders who have in-depth knowledge of the community and the families, and who are present with the young people on a daily basis.

• Funding for meals, hygiene supplies, and school supplies,

• Covering tuition, uniforms, supplies, and transportation costs,

• Funding for teachers (literature, math, science, English),

• Support during three crucial years: high school.
