The overall goal of the Project is to provide safe drinking water to war affected  poverty stricken  people in rural villages.

First and foremost, water scarcity is a pressing issue globally, and it is an issue of life and livelihood. The increasing stress on water resources brought about by growing pollution, and the rising demand is of serious concern worldwide. As many countries had been affected by water scarcity in diverse ways, UN-Water declared ‘water scarcity’ as the theme for World Water Day 2007. Water is essential for all sectors of socio-economic development. It is probably in rural areas that water scarcity affects people most. Added to that, these people are, for the most part, poor and marginalized. When there is not adequate drinking water supply, people have to face many difficulties in getting water from water sources located far away from their places. Much time and energy have to be spent on going to those places for fetching water. **Project** **Area & Target Group:** Polonnaruwa & Anuradhapura are two of the villages situated in North Central Province in Sri Lanka. Since it is located in the North Eastern part of Sri Lanka, it is a region affected by droughts and climate variability from time to time. Also these 02 districts were badly affected by 30 years civil war which ended in 2010. It should be noted that some of the  people living in these areas belong to a special indigenous tribal group (GYPSIES) who used to have their ways and life styles and speak a different language from the rest of the larger community. As the time passed by, however, this particular community has been getting civilized in the form of transitioning their life styles from a more or less a tribal group pattern to civilized common people of today who speak both their native language and the Tamil language. Thus, these tribal groups still remain backward, particularly in health, water and sanitation, education and social status, and economic and social welfare. **Direct Beneficiaries**: So the major direct beneficiaries of this safe drinking water supply project are 4,985 people from 1,176 families within adjoining 05 isolated underserved villages including infants, children, young girls and boys, women ,men and elderly members who have been totally excluded from the main stream of the society.
