“Raising Successful women Entrepreneurs in the DRC would not be possible if an effective support system is not in place ” A space for women to innovate and thrive
Binti Space addresses and fulfills the above by being a space intented to provide young women with the infrastructure and facilities designed to catapult growth of women entrepreneurs, girls in STEM and young female professionals. Binti Space's solution is to provide women with a physical space, with a day care and support facilities in Lubumbashi, easily accessible, where they can gather and get adequate support for leadership, personnal development and venture support
Despite comprising approximately 60% of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, 80% of female entrepreneurs remain in micro and small scale businesses. These, however, have not impeded women's contribution to economic development as more than 62% of locally produced economic goods in Africa are produced by women. However, having the majority of the professionals and entrepreneurs, in micro and small scale ventures, most dominantly informal poses serious challenges, and the DRC is not an exception in this trend.
They need spaces and forums where they can safely express themselves, have a sense of self-awareness and co-design solutions that increase their odds for success.
1.Benefits of the Binti Space , women centric coworking
A safe space for women to grow
The B&B space will not just be an ordinary space, but one of the kind, with an open space, being occupied by women entrepreneurs, Students, freelancers and creative and professional workers such as auditors, travelers, trainers, event managers with access to furnished offices, computers, coffee services, and quality Internet access. They will also have a Meeting room, a showroom and an optional Daycare Space for small kids.
The space will be able to accommodate up to 20 startups and SMEs, 300 women.
The B&B space will provide support for personal development, solutions design, mastering digital tools, business development & acceleration programs, networking with local and international peers in line with SDG 5 & SDG8. Especially in a post-COVID-19 context, where girls & women remain the most vulnerable and the most affected demographic( rdccovid19 business survey, ELAN and FEC, October 2020.), it is so crucial that a strong scheme such as B&B be implemented.
SDG 5 & 8 compatible
The rationale of the B&B space with F360 program is to accelerate Economic wealth & Job Creation (SDG8) through supporting women professionals and entrepreneurs. By supporting up to 20 businesses directly,
We believe that supporting women with solid training, coaching them and providing with ressources, connections and a safe space is inherent to grow and scaling the impact of their ventures from micro to smes, from ideas to startups.
The F360 capacity building series was born from our need as an organisation to see the inequality gap reduced. Understanding the pertinence of SDG 5 to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, where women are the most affected demographic. The program target 20 women entrepreneurs to be supported through entrepreneurial training and 6 months incubation program.
