The book is one of the most powerful mediums for artistic expression. By giving individuals the power to publish and distribute their ideas, Center for Book Arts amplifies the voices of the underrepresented. 

Center for Book Arts offers over 175 workshops to over 2000 students in over 60 countries annually. These workshops teach valuable skills to artists all over the world empowering them to take the power of the presses into their own hands, eliminating the need for artists to rely on traditional art world methods to share their work.

Center for Books Arts is a nonprofit that promotes active explorations of artistic practices related to the book as an art object.

For nearly 50 years, CBA has supported artists and uplifted the book arts by presenting exhibitions, lectures, readings, and performances; providing opportunities for artists, writers, curators and scholars through residencies, fellowships, publishing, and collecting; and empowering the creation of new book art by providing courses on book art related We are committed to providing a nurturing environment for our community in New York City and beyond to grow and learn together. Our studios and virtual educational programming make accessible the equipment and skills needed for artists and writers to take book production into their own hands, and giving creative voices a tool to self amplify without the need to rely on the gallery model or commercial pressures.

Founded in 1974, Center for Book Arts was the first not-for-profit organization of its kind in the nation, and has since become a model for others around the world, serving as a space for research, education, exhibition, making, and community building.
