Aquí es una casa - Here's a House is a collective funding campaign to make a children' s publication and a series of community activities possible. The project is the result of a collaboration between children of two different territories: Santa María la Ribera and Milpa Alta in Mexico City.
Through this campaign, we’re making possible both a beautifully illustrated children’s publication and a series of creative workshops with kids from two neighborhoods — Santa María la Ribera and Milpa Alta — where imagination and community come together every day.
Co-created with the children themselves, the book takes us to explore their worlds from sunrise to sunset — their homes, their streets, their dreams. Written by Alejandra Retana and illustrated by María José Retana, sisters and artists originally from Milpa Alta, this project celebrates the power of storytelling to connect us across borders.
Here is a House is more than a book — it’s a collective effort to listen, celebrate, and support children’s voices in Mexico City. When you support Here is a House, you are helping children discover their creative voice, strengthening local communities, and keeping alive a sense of belonging that every child deserves.
As part of the campaign you can purchase the publication “Here is a House” in pre-sale with a special 20% discount until December 11.
The goal is set up at $4,000 usd and your donation will take us a step closer!
Become a donor for this campaign and rediscover a childlike sense of belonging with the rewards that we have prepared for you.
Amongst them: Digital materials from the "Here's a House" universe, books edited by Casa Gallina, a special edition of the 2026 calendar illustrated by Adriana Campos with texts by Roxanna Erdman, and much more.
