Desks for Dreams: Building Better Classrooms in Congo
Through recent visits and needs assessments, our Buendedi field team—led by Priscilla Odia—identified one of the school’s most urgent challenges: a shortage of classroom desks. Many students currently attend class sitting on the floor or sharing limited furniture, making it difficult to focus, write, and learn comfortably.
Here’s where the next phase of our work begins.
The school requires 100–150 new desks to meet current classroom needs. We’ve partnered with a local Congolese carpenter, signing a formal agreement to guarantee fair wages, sustainable materials, and consistent quality. All at $45 per desk.
Each desk represents far more than wood and nails. It’s a space for a child to learn, dream, and grow. By producing these desks locally, we’re not only improving learning conditions but also strengthening the local economy and community pride.
Your gift brings us closer to our goal of raising $5,000—enough to furnish classrooms with 100 new desks and provide hundreds of students with a proper place to learn.
Together, we can turn empty classrooms into spaces of opportunity and hope.
