Our mission is to alleviate poverty and inequality in the Arusha region through educational efforts and support of the local economy. Through charitable donation and sponsorship, Brighter Tanzania funds Saving Grace Boarding School in Arusha, Tanzania. Our goal is to provide excellent educational opportunities as well as a home for our students, without the worry that family will not be able to cover those expenses. Our work is aimed not only at education for marginalized groups, but also at supporting and growing the local economy in an effort to increase the job market for our future graduates. We want to see the Arusha region develop in a manner consistent with other large metropolitan areas of East Africa, and offer as many opportunities to its inhabitants as those regions currently do. Further, we hope to encourage a decrease in economic disparities between classes and see Arusha grow into a more equitable community. Our work is focused in Arusha, Tanzania for many reasons. Tanzania has grown exponentially in recent decades, but much of that growth has been in large cities such as Dar es Salaam. Because of this massive growth, Tanzania is on the cusp of becoming one of the major economic hubs of the African continent. However, many regions lack the resources to reap the benefits of this expansion—Arusha is one of those regions. Despite its size, Arusha remains less developed than other Tanzanian cities, and relies heavily on volunteer tourism for economic stability. We believe that by nurturing the creativity of students and supporting the local economy, we can foster economic growth in the right direction so that the Arusha region will become financially stable, growing and creating local businesses, thereby generating opportunities for locals independent of tourism.
