Dear Friends of BHP — Many of you have been asking us how the Botswana Harvard Health Partnership (BHP) has fared during recent events, including the termination of all US government funding to Harvard that occurred last week. We are proud of the stand Harvard is taking on the national front, but we wish we had better news. Because of the terminations at Harvard and the elimination of foreign subcontracts across all institutions, BHP has lost about half of its annual funding since May 1st. This abrupt loss of funding puts the safety of clinical trial participants at risk and acutely jeopardizes science and training, wasting years of work and millions of dollars already spent. Unfortunately, Harvard will not be able to replace these lost funds. We are asking for your support to help BHP. With your support during this crisis, we can complete high-impact science in a targeted manner, and protect the current research and training funded by entities other than the US government (almost 50%, and growing).
