Across the United States, literacy is collapsing—and girls are being left behind. Only 33% of students read at grade level, and the drop is steepest in middle school, especially for girls who don’t have access to engaging, confidence-building books. When reading skills fall, everything else falls with them: school performance, self-esteem, curiosity, and belief in a brighter future.

Athenian is a STEM edu-tainment nonprofit empowering girls through literacy, hands-on learning, life-skill development, and career exploration. We ignite curiosity and confidence in youth by blending real-world education with the Charms Book Series—a story-driven universe that teaches leadership, communication, and critical thinking through adventure. Our programs help girls strengthen reading skills, discover STEM pathways, and build the practical knowledge they need to thrive in school, in their communities, and in their future careers.
