Hope Beyond the Crisis: Mental Support in Jamaica

Goal
$200,000

Many families in Jamaica continue to experience emotional distress, trauma, and anxiety due to ongoing social, economic, and environmental challenges. This project will provide compassionate psychosocial support, counseling, and resilience-building interventions to help individuals and families regain stability, hope, and emotional well-being.

Across Jamaica, communities face layered stressors from economic hardship, displacement, grief, and the lingering impacts of disasters. These pressures often go untreated due to stigma around mental health, limited access to services, and few community-based support programs. Without timely psychosocial care, children and adults may struggle with trauma, behavioral issues, and declining mental health.

Our team of trained practitioners and volunteers would like to travel and offer: Individual and group counseling, World Health Organization (WHO) Problem Management Plus (PM+) support, stress and anger management workshops, parenting and family-strengthening sessions, community wellness events focusing on healing, coping skills, and resilience, as well as referrals for higher-level mental health care where needed. Services will be confidential and grounded in culturally relevant approaches.

By empowering individuals with coping tools, emotional support, and community connection, this project will strengthen resilience at both the family and community levels. Over time, Jamaica will have more trained community partners equipped to offer sustained psychosocial care, reduce stigma, and improve mental health outcomes for vulnerable populations.

The Bahamas Resilience Center offers mental health support, wellness programs, and disaster recovery services to build resilience.
