Every year over 1,100 Jewish Studies scholars from around the world come to the AJS annual conference to share their scholarship and network. In order to make this event accessible to the AJS's many members without institutional support, the AJS offers travel grants typically ranging between $200 and $1,000 to presenters, mainly grad students and contingent faculty. The AJS gives away over $50,000 in such funding every year, but with rising travel costs, this still isn't enough to help many members.
With your support, we can both increase the size of these awards and help more members!
Here's what some previous awardees have said about this important funding:
- "Your generous support of this grant has allowed me to attend the AJS conference. The conference was an encouragement to me both personally and professionally. I learned from some of the best scholars in Jewish studies while also participating personally. Without this grant, I would not have attended. I have no institutional support, and as an adjunct, I have limited personal funds to draw on. I am so excited to receive this grant. Thank you for your generosity and kindness."
- "To whomever donated the money for this travel grant, from the bottom of my heart thank you. It was an absolute pleasure to engage in the AJS conference in this way. I was able to reconnect with friends and scholars from many different parts of my life, to learn from them, to break bread and sushi with them, and to nurture meaningful intellectual community with them. I am so honored and grateful to have been a part of this sacred community. Thank you!"
- "I greatly appreciate the grant, which enable me to participate in the conference while my 18-month old was cared for. Suffice to say, it has not been easy balancing early motherhood with early academic career - and grants like these make it possible for me to feel present, engaged in the work, and able to connect with colleagues and peers."
