Giving season: Strengthen Accountability Lens Asia’s Impact

Across Asia, millions of hens remain trapped in battery cages — even after major companies have publicly committed to going cage-free. Accountability Lens Asia (ALA) exists to make sure those promises turn into real, measurable change.

And it’s working.

In just our first year, volunteer-powered accountability has helped push companies toward concrete progress:

• IKEA Thailand is now 100% cage-free
• Ascott is 100% cage-free in the Philippines and Malaysia
• Several additional companies have advanced their implementation following our engagement (not yet public but highly meaningful)

These wins show what consistent pressure, transparency, and community action can achieve — even against some of the world’s largest food companies.

But the gap we’re facing is enormous:

Asia is home to 75% of the world’s farmed animals…

yet receives only ~8% of global animal-welfare funding.

This means accountability work in Asia is severely under-resourced — despite being where it can have the largest impact.
