Every spring, ANIMA - Hellenic Wildlife Care Association in Greece becomes a sanctuary for an overwhelming number of baby animals in desperate need of care. From tiny baby birds and fox cubs to hedgehogs and fawns, these fragile creatures arrive at our sanctuary seeking refuge, nourishment, and medical support.

The Crisis We Face Since the beginning of this month, ANIMA is truly in a state of emergency. May ended with 1,114 admissions, a barely manageable number. But on just the first 10 days of June, we have already admitted 600 animals. This unprecedented influx is stretching our resources to the breaking point. The early heatwave is forcing baby birds to jump from their nests in an attempt to escape the sweltering temperatures, leading to a surge in the number of orphaned and injured wildlife.

The pressure on our staff is immense. We face increased demands for food and other consumables. Additionally, our energy consumption is skyrocketing as many baby animals are hypothermic despite the heat and need incubators, while fans and dehumidifiers also run continuously.
