With no roads, no vehicles, and no ambulance services, families are forced to carry critically ill loved ones in wheelbarrows, stretchers made of sticks and tarps, or simply on their backs—sometimes walking more than 56 kilometers to reach the nearest health post. Many don’t survive. Mothers in labor. Children with high fevers. Elderly patients are too frail to sit up.
