In a coastal town, a young leader gathers ten girls after school for sessions on menstrual health, self-advocacy, and digital literacy, one of many leaders across Africa doing the quiet, relentless work of change. All of them carry the same weight, do the work, hold the community, find the resources, and keep going.

The pressure behind the progress

Leaders advancing the rights of women and girls are doing more with less, writing grants at midnight, paying for transport out of pocket, and designing programmes on borrowed time. When support is short-term or project only, impact becomes fragile.

Within this growing movement, the Alliance for Women and Girls (AFWAG) brings together nearly 300 grassroots organisations across 23 African countries, each advancing gender equity in their own way, yet united by one belief: when we build together, we go further.
