We aim to mitigate catastrophic risks from transformative AI, which we believe could be developed in the next few decades.



The AI Risk Mitigation Fund (ARM Fund) is a non-profit fund making grants in technical research, policy, and training programs for new researchers to reduce catastrophic risks from advanced AI.

We are focussed on the following three areas.

Technical AI alignment research
Technical research can uncover dangerous capabilities before it’s too late, or enable designing future AI systems with enhanced interpretability, steerability, and possibility for human oversight.

Policy
Policy work aims to ensure that government regulation and corporate standards appropriately guard against catastrophic risks.

Training for new researchers
Investment has poured into AI capability development, yet strikingly few researchers are working on key problems in AI safety, particularly outside major industry labs. Grants in this area aim to bring new talent into the AI safety field.

Our team and history
Our team works hard to ensure you make the most effective donations possible. We have substantial experience managing large donations securely, professionally, and flexibly. We've collectively overseen tens of millions of dollars worth of donations to nonprofits based on careful analysis of their impactfulness and ability to use new funding.

What you can expect if you donate
When we receive a donation designated for the ARM Fund, we grant 100% of the value of the donation (minus any fees charged by payment processors) to organizations and individuals recommended by our team of expert grantmakers.

The ARM Fund does not take any fees from donations before the distribution (we fundraise separately for our overhead costs, which include wages for our grantmakers).

The ARM Fund will likely have a partially overlapping group of applicants as the Long-Term Future Fund. So while 100% of your donations will go directly to AI safety projects under the ARM Fund, your donations will likely have an indirect effect in freeing up some of LTFF’s other resources to be spent on other existential security interventions, including both in AI safety and in other LTFF focus areas like biosecurity.

100% of your donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by US law. Your donation is made to Every.org, a tax-exempt US 501(c)(3) charity that grants unrestricted funds to Effective Ventures Foundation USA, Inc. on your behalf. As a legal matter, Every.org must provide any donations to Effective Ventures Foundation USA, Inc. on an unrestricted basis, regardless of any designations or restrictions made by you.
