No Vaccine, No Treatment, Help Us Fight Ebola in the Congo

Goal
$40,000

In April 2026, what appeared to be a simple illness quickly turned into a deadly Ebola outbreak.

Patrick, a nurse in Bunia, developed fever, fatigue, and vomiting. Two days later, Marie, a close relative, became ill with the same symptoms. Both died within days. Their families believed they were victims of a spiritual curse. No alert was raised.

As relatives gathered for funeral ceremonies and touched the bodies of their loved ones, the virus spread silently through the community.

Weeks later, laboratory tests confirmed the worst: Ebola Virus Disease caused by the Bundibugyo strain, a rare form of Ebola for which there is currently no licensed vaccine and no approved treatment.

Today, the outbreak is spreading across Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. According to health authorities and Africa CDC, more than 300 deaths have already been reported and thousands of contacts are being monitored. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified this outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, underscoring the seriousness of the threat and the urgent need for action.

Communities are frightened. Health facilities lack essential protective equipment. Many families have little access to reliable information about how to protect themselves.

Action Sociale Kesho Congo is already responding.

Our teams are conducting community awareness campaigns, promoting hygiene and infection prevention measures, and supporting vulnerable families. But the needs are growing rapidly.

We are launching an emergency fundraising campaign to raise $40,000 to strengthen our Ebola response in North Kivu and South Kivu.

Why this matters

This Ebola outbreak is unfolding in a region already affected by armed conflict, displacement, poverty, and fragile health systems.

Unlike previous Ebola outbreaks, this epidemic is caused by the Bundibugyo strain, for which there is currently no approved vaccine and no specific treatment. Health authorities and Africa CDC have already reported more than 300 deaths and thousands of identified contacts requiring follow-up and monitoring.

Without rapid community action, the outbreak could continue to spread within the Democratic Republic of the Congo and beyond its borders.

In the fight against Ebola, information saves lives.

Every health facility equipped can help stop transmission.

Every volunteer trained can protect dozens of families.

Every awareness session can prevent new infections.

Through community networks, we estimate that prevention messages will indirectly reach more than 100,000 people.

Why Kesho Congo?

Action Sociale Kesho Congo has extensive experience responding to public health emergencies in Eastern Congo. During previous outbreaks, including COVID-19 and MPOX, our teams provided infection prevention supplies, community awareness activities, and nutritional support to vulnerable populations.

Because we are deeply rooted in the communities we serve, we can mobilize quickly and deliver support where it is needed most.

Goal: $40,000

Every donation, no matter the amount, will help save lives and strengthen community protection against Ebola.

Together, we can transform solidarity into action.

Together, we can help stop the spread of Ebola.

Donate today and help protect vulnerable communities in Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
