Help communities rebuild after tragic fires.

Crisis and resilience shape daily life in Eastern Congo. Your support can help communities rebuild after tragedy.

Based in Bukavu, Kesho Congo helps vulnerable families build healthier futures through nutrition, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment. Founded by pediatrician and public health leader Dr. Adolphe Nyakasane, the organization combats childhood malnutrition, supports rural women farmers, and is expanding access to healthcare through a new hospital that will serve more than 74,000 people.

From September 9 to 11, a series of fires swept through several neighborhoods of Bukavu, destroying more than 600 homes and two primary schools. Tragically, two schoolchildren and two teachers lost their lives.

Unfortunately, the situation has worsened. Between September 20 and 23, additional fires destroyed more than 500 homes, and around ten people reportedly lost their lives.

As a result, thousands of families are now homeless and have lost virtually everything. They urgently need food, shelter, clothing, household items, school supplies, and other basic necessities to begin rebuilding their lives.

Some of the families affected are also families of children currently followed through Kesho Congo’s nutrition centers. This makes the situation particularly painful for us, as we know many of these families personally and have been supporting them through our nutrition programs.

While the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, the impact has already been catastrophic.

As communities begin the difficult process of recovery, Kesho Congo is helping families rebuild their lives. Support Kesho Congo's lifesaving efforts.
