SoleFamily cares for the most desperate and needy in Bali, and there are many.  They stretch each dollar to the fullest to maximize the care provided.  I have never found a better non-profit to donate to than SoleFamily.

Providing medical and psychological care for Bali's most vulnerable

The island of Bali, home to four and a half million people, is one of the world's most desired destinations. With its remarkable spiritual energy, generous hospitality, tropical gardens, swaying palms, balmy weather, white sandy beaches, and premier accommodations, Bali has become a favored international destination. This is the Bali that is known and loved.


However, Bali has a somewhat hidden side. This is not the Bali you imagine. Often overlooked and not visible to tourists, many locals are desperately poor, in poor health, and in need of help.


Despite the provincial government doing what it can, the social system is overwhelmed, and as a result, locals must turn elsewhere to find a helping hand. Privately funded non-profits such as SoleFamily Bali are essential in addressing the growing social needs of the local population. Eleven years ago, Robert Epstone and Sarah Chapman formed their outreach program as a privately funded non-profit to address those growing needs.



Solefamily Bali is changing the lives in Bali through the provision of medical and psychological care for the most vulnerable individuals; the provision of basic dried food staples and fresh produce; the facilitation of care and advocacy for children and adults; and offering a safe haven in a comfortable recovery center.





Many of the villages that SoleFamily Bali serves are in the remote corners of the island. As such, their always-at-the-ready, rapid-response teams provide care and emergency medical attention to the sick, the poor, and the destitute. When treatments are unavailable in Bali, they provide crucial access for children to receive complex cardiac treatment in Jakarta. Furthermore, their ten-bedroom care and recovery center provides a safe and comfortable haven in which to heal.


In 2023, the foundation rebranded from Soleman Indonesia to SoleFamily Bali, a name that more accurately reflects their work. To date, they treat and assist more than 800 families on the island. This work includes treatment and vital support for Bali's most physically vulnerable and mentally impaired residents.
