We Are the FureverHome Cat Sanctuary in Romania

With over 350 rescued cats and 74 dogs in our care, we are overwhelmed daily by rescue requests. What started as two siblings rescuing abandoned and sick animals from the streets has grown into a mission we never imagined would reach this scale.

Four years ago, we founded this non-profit with the hope of finding support for our rescue efforts and for the many animals who depend on us. Both of us work full-time jobs, and nearly everything we earn goes directly into saving and caring for these animals and sustaining the sanctuary.

Our focus has always been on the most vulnerable—the ones no one else will help. Despite our best efforts, the growing need often feels impossible to manage, and we are now in urgent need of support.

Sadly, we struggle every month to keep the sanctuary running. Despite our best efforts, the few donations we receive are not enough to sustain the growing needs of our animals. We work hard to stay connected with our supporters—posting daily updates on our Facebook page, being fully transparent about our spending, and showing exactly how much of an impact every donation makes. Yet, the demand for rescue and care far outweighs the resources we have. Without additional help, we simply cannot keep up with the overwhelming need. 

Our dream is to make the sanctuary sustainable :

To build a place where visitors can come, learn, and help generate revenue to care for the animals.

To open an on-site clinic for the sickest cats.

To create proper quarantine facilities and upgrade living conditions so every animal has the care they deserve.

To transform the sanctuary into a tourist destination, proving that compassion can coexist with practicality.

We want to show the world that there is an alternative to ignoring homeless and hurt animals on the street. If two siblings in a small Romanian village with limited resources can save hundreds of lives, anyone can make a difference.

People often say, “You can’t save them all,” but we believe that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. The animals we’ve rescued remind us why this work matters. They came to us broken—hungry, scared, abandoned—but today, they are thriving, joyful, and surrounded by love. Every life we save proves that even small acts of kindness can create ripples of hope.

No, we can’t save them all. But for those we do, their second chance at happiness means everything. And with your help, we can continue this work—and inspire others to believe in the power of compassion.

For years we funded this sanctuary entirely out of our own pockets. But as the number of animals in need grew, it became impossible to sustain on our earnings alone. Thanks to our NGO and the incredible generosity of a few supporters, we’ve been able to continue helping so many animals in desperate need. However, the sheer scale of the expenses—especially for the many very sick cats in our care—means we are constantly forced to ask for help.

Some days, it feels like we just can’t go on. But we push through, waking up at 5 a.m. every single day to care for over 40 quarantined cats that we had to bring into our home because the sanctuary simply doesn’t have enough space or a proper quarantine area. We tried to fundraise for this essential facility, but unfortunately, the campaign wasn’t successful.

By 7 a.m., we head to the cat sanctuary, which is 14 km away in a small village. It used to be our dad’s vacation house, but it’s now home to hundreds of rescued animals. The cats have two houses with three fireplaces and a large garden to explore. The dogs live in a cozy stable filled with hay and have access to a big forest to roam and play. Unlike the cats, the dogs rarely get sick. But for the cats, it’s a constant battle—over 50 of them need daily treatments, antibiotics, and expensive medications.

Caring for the animals is relentless. Cleaning alone takes us more than eight hours every single day. We haven’t had a single day off in over six years—no Sundays, no holidays. But we do it because every life we save makes the sacrifices worth it.

We need help more than ever to continue this work. The animals depend on us, and we depend on the kindness and support of people like you to give them the care and love they deserve. Together, we can keep their second chances alive.

We have had over 100 cats with FIP (feline infectious peritonitis)

We spent a fortune and borrowed in order to try to save them from this horrible disease that to this day is a battle for us.

Our basic monthly shelter expenses exceed 9000 euros per month:

\~1200 euros for raw chicken meat, which is their breakfast, half of which is also intended for the many dogs.

\~1500 euros per month just for dry cat and dog food, sometimes more, sometimes less. (we also get sometime food donations and that helps a lot)

\~300-400 euros just for basic cleaning materials such as disinfectant solutions, paper towels, detergents, etc.

\~400-500 euros just for water and electricity bills.

\~1000 euros for recovery food and gastro food for the sickest cats.

\~800-1200 euros just for drugs, such as antibiotics, spot-on treatments, vaccines, supplements, etc.

\~1200-2000 euros per month just for vet bills.

\~800 euros represents the salary of our employee who helps us clean the two cat houses and spends more than 8 hours a day with them.

\~400-500  euros a month just on the wood pelets for the litter boxes, more than 66 bags of pelets a month we use, even though most cats go to the toilet in the garden but for the 13 pen we have litter boxes used by our sick cats, plus the kittens and the special needs cats that are at home and cant go outside. 

\~400 euros we send with Transferwise to +40 homeless cats in Tunisia to Hedi Saidi, a man who has rescued so many injured, dying and sick cats and no one else helps him, we have helped his cats for 3 years now, monthly, he also posts a lot of his rescue efforts on facebook and sadly no one else helps him:

And when we can we pay for partial cost of GS antiviral from China, some months we sent thousand of euros, and some we only were able to send a few hundred. 

Neither of us have ever received a salary from the NGO, not even my sister, who is in charge of the NGO’s accounting, who has hundreds of invoices every month. We don’t take any days off, so in the last 6 years of having so many animals in our care, we haven’t had a day off, and volunteer help is rare, maybe one or two people every 2-3 months and only one person helped us out with foster care.

We both have jobs and every morning we hurry to clean the cat house and give medical treatment to then go to work in the city and in the afternoon we go back to the shelter, and at night back at home where we also take care of +40 kittens and special needs cats that cant stay at the sanctuary. 

The phone rings day and night for desperate cases of animals dying or being abandoned on the street.

We are very grateful to our supporters and we really need more support.

We always try to fundraise, mostly on our Facebook page where we post regular updates, but we cant even raise enough money to pay a few vet bills. 

The truth is we are in desperate need of help, our animals are lacking so many things, from medicines to a proper quarantine, food is depleting daily, recovery food and even cleaning supplies are something we struggle daily. 

Any help we can get would make a big difference for these animals who only have us for their support. 

Right now we have over 40 kittens! All rescued of course, but we cant find any good adoptions for them! In Romania just ask any animal welfare NGO and they will all tell you they don’t give for adoption in Romania, because most people here are irresponsible, and we had cases where an adopted handicaped cat was put back in the street during winter! Luckily after weeks of trying to re-trap her, we got lucky and now she lives with us and will never be abandoned again. Unfortunately we had many experiences like this but we also had many very successful adoptions, most abroad.
