Innovation has been a hallmark of the Whitney since its beginnings. It was the first museum dedicated to the work of living American artists and the first New York museum to present a major exhibition of a video artist (Nam June Paik, in 1982). Such important figures as Jasper Johns, Jay DeFeo, Glenn Ligon, Cindy Sherman, and Paul Thek were given their first comprehensive museum surveys at the Whitney. The Museum has consistently purchased works within the year they were created, often well before the artists who created them became broadly recognized.

South Florida’s cultural destination to experience Japanese culture, art, gardens, food and more.

Visitors are surprised to discover a century-old connection between Japan and South Florida. It is here that a group of young Japanese farmers created a community intended to revolutionize agriculture in Florida.

In 1904, Jo Sakai, a recent graduate of New York University, returned to his homeland of Miyazu, Japan, to organize a group of pioneering farmers and lead them to what is now northern Boca Raton. With the help of the Model Land Company, a subsidiary of Henry Flagler’s East Coast Railroad, they formed a farming colony they named Yamato, an ancient name for Japan.

Ultimately, the results of their crop experimentation were disappointing and the Yamato Colony fell far short of its goals. By the 1920s the community, which had never grown beyond 30 to 35 individuals, finally surrendered its dream. One by one, the families left for other parts of the United States or returned to Japan.

SIHA works in cooperation with the Sawtooth, Salmon-Challis, and Caribou-Targhee National Forests. Since 1972, we have provided interpretive and educational programs to preserve the past and protect the future of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area (NRA) and Salmon River country.

For over a decade SIHA has hosted the annual Sawtooth Forum & Lecture Series, a free, public program at the Stanley Museum. The series brings in scientists, historians, and storytellers to present their work as it relates to the Sawtooths, expanding our understanding and appreciation of the area.

SIHA also preserves history throughout the valley by restoring buildings and providing interpretive information and education programs.

The museum and visitor center are open daily mid-June through mid-September. Our staff is made up of dedicated interns with backgrounds in environmental studies, recreation, conservation, education, and related sciences who are interested in learning educational and interpretive techniques and explore the beauty the area has to offer.

At the Redfish Lake Visitor Center & Gallery, naturalists present over 300 free walks and talks throughout the summer about the natural history of the area for all ages. The center also provides maps, books, and information, hosts an art gallery of regional talent, and welcomes visitors to the area. Naturalists inform adventurers about Leave-No-Trace and wilderness regulations at trailhead portals (contacting more than 7000 visitors) and answer myriad questions. 

At the Stanley Museum you will find displayed relics of the past and an older way of life. To further inform both locals and visitors alike, SIHA collects oral histories, maintains photo archives, organizes history tours, provides area information, and sponsors other activities and events, including History Day and the Sawtooth Salmon Festival.

Whitney Plantation Museum is the only museum in Louisiana with an exclusive focus on the lives of enslaved people

The Whitney Plantation is located on the historic River Road, less than an hour from New Orleans. Whitney Plantation is the only plantation museum in Louisiana with a focus on slavery.
Through the use of restored buildings, museum exhibits, memorial artwork and hundreds of first-person slave narratives from the Federal Writers’ Project, visitors are offered a unique perspective on the lives of Louisiana’s enslaved people.

Springfield Community Center Inc is a nonprofit organization focused on arts, culture, or humanities. It is based in Union Point, GA. It received its nonprofit status in 2016.

In 1825, when Taliaferro County was formed, our ancestors were here as enslaved people on the Plantations in Georgia Militia District 606, later called Springfield Community. 
After emancipation, our great-great-grandfather, his siblings, cousins, and friends drove seventy miles to Augusta University, later to become Morehouse College, pursuing an education. 
In 1935 the Springfield School board purchased land, secured the plan for a Rosenwald design, and began to build the log cabin school, which opened as a school for Black children and operated as such from 1937 through 1955. 
From 1955 until 1965, it served as a meeting place for the Masons, Odd-Fellows, and other Black organizations in the Community. 
In 1965 a community member, Springfield School graduate, and educator solicited others and trained under the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) Citizen Education Program to prepare Taliaferro County Black citizens to register to vote. They were joined by Summer Community Organization and Political Education (SCOPE) volunteers. 
Mr. Turner and five other educators involved in this activity lost their contracts with the school. Not renewing the contract upset the student, and a protest began. The Springfield School became headquarters for this effort. As the boycott continued, the school building became a Freedom School. 
As the Civil Rights protest ended, Mr. Turner partnered with Randolph Blackwell and others to form Crawfordville Enterprise to create jobs. The textile mill and silk-screening plant would be in the old school building. SCLC secured a larger facility as the textile mill grew, and the old school was used as a Head start and Day Care for the plant workers. 
Taliaferro County (Georgia) has a majority Black population, with the school system being 90 percent black. The county's historical markers and statues honor Alexander H. Stephens, Vice President of the Confederacy. Springfield Community wants to change the biased perception by teaching our history, which is America's History. 
The historical listing, restoration, and preservation of the Springfield Log Cabin School and its development as a community center will impact the larger community by enhancing the tourism industry in Taliaferro County. The School will be marketed as the only log cabin/Rosenwald design school in the county, as a repository of African American history and culture, education, and as a symbol of self-reliance. It is the only Civil Rights Era Freedom School in Georgia. It is anticipated that the interpretative portion of the center will provide an opportunity for students of the county to understand better African American life, educational commitment, and the civil rights struggle. 
The Board of Trustees of the Springfield Community Center, Inc's greatest asset is its commitment to completing this project. This commitment is rooted in the fact that the members were born in the Springfield Community and are descendants of the original trustees or original landowners. They are property owners in the Community, and some attended elementary School at the log cabin school or the Freedom School.
The group has partnered with the County Commissioner, Taliaferro School System, Taliaferro County Historical Society, The Purification Heritage Center, Landmark Preservation, Ethos Preservation, AIA, Attorney John M. Clark, of Clark and Clark, the University of Georgia, and several churches in the county 
The complete restoration project will cost approximately a million dollars and divided into phases.

Phase 1 of the overall rehabilitation of the Springfield Log School consists of two main components. First, enhancements need to be made to stabilize the building structurally. Secondly, efforts should be made to restore exterior features to cease further deterioration and prevent water intrusion by remedying exterior deficiencies. Structural repairs would include the in-kind repair of brick piers, wood framing, and log cladding. Significant jacking to alleviate deflection will need to occur. As the log cladding serves as the building's siding, by repairing or selectively replacing the significantly deteriorated logs in-kind, the exterior cladding would shed water. Furthermore, in-kind repairs to eave brackets, rafter tails, roofing, and flashing will help ensure that degradation due to water intrusion is ceased. This is a critical step in protecting this unique building from further loss of historic fabric.

The Children's Museum of the Magic Valley (CMMV) is an emerging hands-on children's museum to be located in Twin Falls, Idaho. CMMV will focus exhibits, programming, and children's activities on the Magic Valley's 37,000 children ages birth through eleven years. The research and concept development behind CMMV has been ongoing since mid-2018 when it was founded as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Our goal is to establish a permanent, state-of-the-art children's museum in Twin Falls. The Twin Falls Urban Renewal Agency (URA) entered into exclusive negotiations with CMMV for the purchase of a .50 acre lot in downtown Twin Falls on the corner of 3rd Street South and Idaho Street South. Downtown Twin Falls is the heart of our community, and CMMV is eager and committed to becoming a vital part of this historical area. The experiences and cultural contributions of people of African descent have been marginalized throughout history and MoCADA’s mission is to undertake the responsibility of rewriting that history in order to give a more accurate portrayal of the contributions of people of African descent to the artistic and global landscape.

The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) uplifts the visual, literary, and performing arts as a conduit that connects the shared history, values, and futures of Africa and its diaspora, for the purpose of advancing dialogue on pressing social + political issues faced by these communities. We give platform within our safe spaces to artists whose work honor, celebrate, and expand this rich conversation while inviting our community in to explore, engage, and thrive within our collective evolution.

For 20 years, MoCADA has empowered vulnerable communities and instilled a sense of pride in visitors through representation and access to the arts including 100+ groundbreaking artists from 20+ countries (Terence Nance, Dread Scott, Wangechi Mutu, etc) whose voices have gone largely ignored; to Black, LatinX, Indigenous, especially, low income, children, women, immigrants, elders, LGBTQ+, people living with disabilities etc from the communities of Central Brooklyn and beyond.

CCC is the creative cog in the Spartanburg community by providing major funding & support for local arts & cultural organizations.

Chapman Cultural Center is more than just a destination. As a Local Arts Agency, our organization provides major funding and support for many of Spartanburg’s arts and cultural organizations. Our educational programs serve more than 40,000 public and private school students throughout Spartanburg County (SC), with residencies by professional artists in the disciplines of music, dance, visual arts, literature, media, theatre, and crafts. We are the creative cog of Spartanburg's Arts & Cultural community. We let Spartanburg's professional arts organizations run the show while we provide the financial support to ensure they succeed.

The Port Royal Sound—a tidal inlet of the Atlantic Ocean—is the body of water that defines the Lowcountry of South Carolina, from the beaches of Hilton Head to the salt marshes of Beaufort. The mission of the Port Royal Sound Foundation (PRSF) is to preserve the Port Royal Sound for the environmental, cultural, and economic well-being of our area. PRSF strives to be the leading authority and advocate for the Port Royal Sound, providing and supporting education, research, and conservation initiatives to preserve it. 
PRSF began in 2011 and opened the doors to its FREE Maritime Center museum in 2014. We center our exhibits, events and programs around ecology, art, culture, history, and recreation to ensure meaningful, well-rounded engagement with our community and the Sound. We believe that high-quality educational activities and outdoor experiences should be accessible for all, regardless of limiting circumstances. For this reason, much of what we offer is free or has minimal program fees, and our funding comes largely from generous donors and grants. 
The following is a description of programs that will be supported, in part, by your donation:

Education
•	Maritime Center: a FREE museum housing 50+ exhibits (including live animals, gardens, history, biology, art, and more) that require ongoing updates, care, and maintenance
•	Field Trips: hands-on learning experiences for all grade-levels; agendas and curricula support South Carolina teaching standards; 3,000+ students/year
•	Pluff Mudder Summer Camp: week-long junior naturalist activities and nature experiences for children 6-13 years old, including nature hikes, kayaking, fishing, crafts, microscope activities, games, and more
•	Adult Pluff Mudder Camp: naturalist-led program for adults new to the Lowcountry or who want to learn more about the land, water, and animals of the Port Royal Sound 
•	Junior Naturalist Program: preparing the next generation to love and protect our beautiful waters and be certified as a Junior Naturalist
•	Tuesday Talks/SoundVision Webinar Series: public lectures from local experts in ecology, art, culture, science, photography, fishing, birding, turtle watch, and more
•	Saturday Programs: naturalist-led educational programs for people of all ages, including nature hikes, fishing/crabbing, crafts, reptile meet & greets, and many more
•	Storytime: weekly opportunity for young children to watch the Sound come alive through the pages of a book, paired with a fun activity or animal encounter afterwards
•	STEAM Festival: annual event that showcases the innovation and excitement of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math); 800+ attendees each year

Research
•	Citizen Scientist Program: local community members and organizations assist in the collection and compilation of long-term, widespread water quality data in collaboration with USCB and Clemson Extension Adopt-A-Stream; 75+ volunteers sampling 19 sites across the county
•	State of the Sound Symposium: first annual research symposium in February 2022 that convened 11 area experts from SCDNR and USCB to present what knowledge currently exists about the ecology of the Sound and how future research can help us better understand and preserve it; select recordings can be found at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAv_68a8MqnvXUf6ggGXXkefjMS4__E5E 
•	State of the Sound Report: a comprehensive report that collects and analyzes historical data about water quality and the health of the Sound; currently being written, will be made available to the public and scientists to inform future research

Conservation
•	Annual Recycled Art Contest: 100+ entrants from schools, families, and amateur and professional artists make art displays with litter or items that would be recycled; art is displayed in the Maritime Center and a jury decides winners in multiple categories 
•	Litter pickups: quarterly clean of highway around the Foundation; volunteers average approximately 100 pounds of trash each time; 1,500 bags of litter kept out of the Sound since 2014

While this list is not exhaustive, it gives you an idea of the breadth and depth of our commitment to the health of the Port Royal Sound and its inhabitants. Being a coastal community comes with a lot of perks, as well as a lot of responsibility. Preserving the healthy water and unique wildlife supported by the Sound goes hand-in-hand with preserving the scenery, seafood, art and recreation in which we take pride and that make our home so special. Caring for the Sound is about more than just protecting the environment- it’s about protecting our Lowcountry lifestyle, today and for generations to come.

Advancing excellence in education, research, exhibition and conservation of desert plants of the world.

In 1939, a small group of passionate local citizens saw the need to conserve the beautiful desert environment. One was Swedish botanist Gustaf Starck, who found like-minded residents by posting a sign that read “Save the Desert.”

With the support of social influencers of the time such as Gertrude Divine Webster, the Garden’s presence grew. Nearly eight decades later, thanks to leadership and investments from many individuals, Desert Botanical Garden has blossomed from a dream into a living museum.

The Garden’s vision is to be the premier center in the world for the exhibition, research and conservation of desert plants. The Garden strives to be an indispensable resource for learning about cactus, agave and other desert plants of the Sonoran Desert and the world. Every element of the Garden reflects excellence, beauty and inspiration to transform the guest experience into one of discovery. The Garden is here to help everyone enjoy the beauty of the desert and to help them care about protecting and sustaining the natural world for the benefit of future generations.

Dedicated to preserving its historic monument and its stories, inspiring lifelong learning and creating lasting memories.

Built in 1914, Union Station opens her arms with 850,000 square feet of amazing space that originally featured 900 rooms. In her prime as a working train station, she accommodated hundreds of thousands of passengers each year. During WWII, an estimated one million travelers – many of those soldiers – passed through the Station. The North Waiting Room (now Grand Plaza) held 10,000 people and the complex included restaurants, a cigar store, barbershop, railroad offices, the nation's largest Railway Express Building (used for shipping freight and mail) as well as a powerhouse providing steam and power.  So many stories of farewells, reunions and of day-to-day vibrancy still echo in her walls.  Just listen . . .

CAF Objectives 1. To acquire, restore and preserve in flying condition a complete collection of combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States and selected aircraft of other nations for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans.  2. To provide museum buildings for the permanent protection and display of these aircraft as a tribute to the thousands of men and women who built, serviced and flew them.  3. To perpetuate in the memory and in the hearts of all Americans the spirit in which these great planes were flown in the defense of our nation.  4. To establish an organization having the dedication, enthusiasm and esprit de corps necessary to operate, maintain and preserve these aircraft as symbols of our American military aviation heritage.

American folk art. French Impressionist paintings. Historic New England architecture. Duck decoys, circus animals, and dolls. These were just some of the some of the interests of Shelburne Museum founder Electra Havemeyer Webb.

She grew up in New York, where her parents, Henry and Louisine Havemeyer, were important collectors of European and Asian art. By the age of nineteen, she resolved to follow in their footsteps but instead envisioned a collection that would celebrate the arts of America. Mrs. Webb saw beauty in the everyday objects that had been part of American life for generations—furniture, pottery, quilts, weathervanes, and more—and filled her homes in New York and Shelburne, Vermont, with antiques.

When Mrs. Webb founded Shelburne Museum in 1947, it was at first a place to preserve her family’s collection of horse-drawn carriages. Before long, however, she realized that she had a rare opportunity to create what she described as a “collection of collections” and “an educational project, varied and alive.”

From the countryside throughout New England and New York, Mrs. Webb found historic buildings that would provide appropriate settings for her collections, and she relocated them to the Museum grounds: houses, barns, a meeting house, a one-room schoolhouse, a lighthouse, a jail, a general store, a covered bridge, and the 220-foot steamboat Ticonderoga. She worked with a landscape design team to situate them within a welcoming environment that today includes a lush gardens and enticing views.

Mrs. Webb created something completely unprecedented for her time: world-class collections in a village-like setting of historic New England buildings and landscapes; a welcoming and informal place for visitors to engage with history through objects that tell stories. Shelburne Museum has never been just about the past, however—not in Mrs. Webb’s time and not now. Just as she connected with the creative people of her day who were interested in linking the arts of America’s past to the practices of modern life, Shelburne Museum today offers new perspectives through its special exhibitions, events, and educational programs.

At the heart of all Shelburne Museum’s offerings are its endlessly compelling and extensive collections, which have continued to grow thanks to the combined efforts of dedicated curators, donors, artists, and artisans.
