Founded in 1987, the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation (PWA) is a leading community-based charity dedicated to supporting people living with HIV/AIDS. We aim to help those we serve enhance their health and well-being through practical and therapeutic support services and broader social change, inspiring them to live their dreams.

We are a community-based non-profit registered charitable organization.
 
After the discovery of the HIV virus in 1983, AIDS Service Organizations formed to address the major trends of the disease: to help prevent the spread of HIV and to care for those dying from AIDS-related illnesses.

In 1986, in response to this emerging trend and frustrated by the public’s focus on AIDS prevention and lack of services for people already infected, four gay men living with HIV/AIDS began meeting to discuss ways for people living with HIV to stay healthy and live with dignity. They formed a coalition with a mandate to provide practical, direct-support services to people living with HIV/AIDS using a peer-to-peer model.
 
The first PWA office was housed in the apartment of one of the founders at 44 Huntley Street followed by a brief stay in Casey House until funding could be secured for the location on Yonge Street. Since then, PWA has had numerous homes where the foundation has consistently provided our essential programming:
 
Practical Supports:

-              Essentials Market: This is PWA’s food bank which provides staple food items, Culturally appropriate foods, fresh produce, pet food, home start-up items, and special needs supplies such as baby items.
-              Food For Life: This community program is a weekly frozen meal delivery program for PHAs returning home from the hospital, experiencing severe mobility, acute medical issues, or are receiving palliative care.
-              POZ Community Kitchen: This program provides daily, culturally specific, nutritious meals to community members, ensuring that no one goes hungry. The kitchen is fully staffed by volunteers living with HIV/AIDS who gain employment skills and combat isolation through shared meals.
-              Vitamin Supplements: We provide free community donated multi-vitamins through our Front desk.
 
Financial Assistance:
-              Health and Wellness Fund: The Health and Wellness Fund helps people living with HIV/AIDS manage some of the financial burdens they face when improving and maintaining their health and wellness. PWA reimburses 50% of eligible expenses until a member reaches a maximum of $300.
-              Positive Children’s Fund: The Positive Children’s Fund helps HIV+ children, and their families manage some of the financial burdens they face with daily living, including such items as outgrown clothes, school activities, diapers and formula.
-              Positive Seniors’ Fund: The Positive Senior’s Fund helps HIV+ seniors manage some of the financial burdens they face when they receive OAS (Old Age Security), including a reduced monthly income and reduced insurance coverage.
 
Health and Therapeutic Care:
-              Health & Therapeutic Care services at PWA support the holistic health and well-being of people living with HIV/AIDS. These Programs provide free, on-site holistic health care to complement conventional medical care for people living with HIV/AIDS (PHAs). Services include;

o             Dental hygiene

o             Hearing test/ hearing aids

o             Nada ear clinic

Dreaming and Engagement:

-              POZ Prevention: The Program utilizes staff and peer educators to provide peer consultations, service provider training, and social group discussions around sexual health and Poz prevention.
-              Health Champion Peer Educators: The program recruits, trains and supports PHAs as peer medical educators who train medical and healthcare practitioner students about the experiences of people living with HIV/AIDS and about how to engage PHAs in their own healthcare in a supportive, nonjudgement and empowering way devoid of stigma and discrimination.
-              Positive Women Empowerment and Resilience (POWER) Peer Support Program: The Peer Support program is a collaborative approach to providing diverse, innovative and practical support services for women (trans, cis and femme) living with HIV/AIDS in Toronto. The Peer Support Program at PWA builds on the value, impact, and benefit experienced by women living with HIV  when they can receive support from other HIV-positive women and those HIV-positive women providing support. POWER Project Peers speak several languages and will support and assist other women in navigating the social service system as follows;

o             Accompaniment to medical and other appointments

o             Immigration support

o             Housing support

o             Interpretation/Translation

o             Service referrals

o             Outreach/Facilitation

Fueled by a vision to create a thriving hub where people living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS can access the full spectrum of services in one safe, vibrant space, PWA moved to 163 Queen St. E., Toronto in 2023 with the transformational support of a generous donor and officially launched the Community Health Justice Hub.
 
Created by and for people living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS, the Hub is a one-stop shop where community members can access food, healthcare and essential services, nurture their creativity and find healing in safety and belonging.

At the Community Health Justice Hub, we’re not just helping people impacted by HIV/AIDS. We’re building community power, changing lives and creating thriving futures. We are currently recruiting new ASOs to join us at the Hub to provide a wider range of interconnected services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Our mission is to return the favor. To care for the people who take such good care of us. To provide a place for restaurant staff to feel supported, heard and appreciated. To facilitate gatherings where we can build meaningful connections with folks who “get it.” To lift each other up so we don’t lose anyone else to suicide, addiction or struggles surrounding mental health.

CHOW was created by individuals in the food and beverage industry to bridge the gap between personal and clinical care. Everyone in the food/beverage/hospitality industry needs community and wellness resources. For those in recovery, CHOW recognizes that long term recovery needs connection and CHOW provides opportunities for that connection.

We do this by:

- Providing mental health support for food/beverage/hospitality teams through our community-building discussion groups
- Collaborating with owners and operators to provide information and guidance on best practices for resilient workplaces
- Connecting people in crisis with comprehensive supportive services.

Culinary Hospitality Outreach And Wellness Inc

A community-supported independent library & artist workshop of printed material, fiscally sponsored by Intersection for the Arts.

The Prelinger Library in San Francisco offers thousands of historical maps, zines, documents, books and other materials, all of which are available for artists to reference or reuse. Its collections serve activists, writers, musicians, composers, poets, novelists, journalists, and historians. The Library was established in 2004 and has served over ten thousand reserach visits. Its collections have supported the production of artists talks series, films, novels as well as open-ended explorations by people working across all media types. As a 100% community-supported project, the Library s free to pursue equity and justice, abolition and libration, and to serve the community as a trans- and queer-safe space and infoshop for survival and resistance. The Library puts hospitality first and offers sparkling water or tea to every visitor.

The collections also hold government-produced documents from eras when artists and writers were widely employed in their production, offering art and literature in unexpected places as well as roadmaps toward civil societies. With stacks materials ranging from eighteenth century documents to works produced this week, the room serves as a slip in spacetime within which a couple hundred years of human experience and experiments can be browsed. Library hosts represent a range of subject-matter expertises including public transportation, radio science, zine making, natural history, library science, book arts, moving image history and production, and nonfiction writing.

The Library also exists as an experiment in analog–digital hybridity. Support and protect LGBTIQ+ people in Europe.

Forbidden Colours collects and raises funds to support initiatives that help LGBTIQ+ people to fully live their lives in freedom with self-respect and dignity in Europe. They are also a leading advocate in exposing anti-LGBTIQ+ initiatives in Europe, and therefore conduct extensive advocacy with media, EU-institutions and member states. 

Forbidden Colours is a NPO linked to a fund managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, the major Belgian public benefit foundation, whose mission it is to contribute to a better society. 

We want all LGBTIQ+ persons to be able to get up every morning feeling it is okay to be who they are. We use our extensive network in the European institutions, and in several member states of the EU, to address the backlashes on LGBTIQ+ rights. With our media contacts across the world, we expose anti-LGBTIQ+ initiatives. By putting pressure through the media, we were able to put several cases higher on the political agenda.

The organization is considered as one of the most effective organizations to protect LGBTIQ+ rights on the European level. By closely monitoring the geopolitical forces behind state-sponsored anti-LGBTIQ+ campaigns, Forbidden Colours was able to expose several European governments for scapegoating the LGBTIQ+ community as a deception for their anti-democracy campaigns. 

They revealed cases such as the anti-LGBTIQ+ propaganda law in Hungary, an anti-LGBTIQ+ education reform in Poland and the needs of LGBTIQ+ persons fleeing Russia's war with Ukraine in the international media. With this, Forbidden Colours has gained the attention of the world media and has been featured in amongst others The Guardian, VICE & Sky News. The non-profit has led a campaign aiming to take down Hungary's infamous anti-LGBTIQ+ propaganda law. After 1,5 year of campaigning by Forbidden Colours, the Hungarian government was taken to the Court of Justice of the European Union. For the first time in the history of the EU, a member state was taken to court on the basis of violations of human dignity and human rights. Forbidden Colours was also able to convince the largest group of member states ever to intervene in a lawsuit against another member state.   

They also help organisations from all over the world to advocate more successfully at the European Union institutions and, for example, also works with local partners on the EU Global Human Rights Sanction Regime. Besides its political advocacy work, Forbidden Colours also works with the corporate world to create a more diverse, equal and inclusive workplace. They give trainings, keynotes and develop projects to raise awareness to the issues of the LGBTIQ+ community within the company. They also develop 'corporate social responsibility'-projects about LGBTIQ+ rights together with the corporate world. This helps companies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Alliance for Diplomacy and Justice (a 501c3 organization) represents a vision for reimagining United States foreign policy that prioritizes human rights. Advancing human rights in U.S. foreign policy is good for the world and good for Americans.

In January 2025, eight former Ambassadors, Special Representatives, and Special Envoys with human rights portfolios at the State Department founded The Alliance for Diplomacy and Justice. **The Euki App**
Our flagship product, the Euki App, is a no-cost mobile period tracker that also connects users to research based information on censored or stigmatized sexual and reproductive health experiences including Abortion, Contraception, Menstruation, and Sexuality- all without collecting one single bit of their data.
