We provide immediate assistance and long support during natural disasters when people are forced to evacuate and/or their homes are destroyed leaving them in need of shelter, food, or water. 
We support cancer patients who are unable to pay for medical treatments, copayments, or after care assistance that may not be covered by their insurance. 
We support impoverished students who qualify for a higher education but cannot afford to pay tuition through grants and scholarships.  
We support the homeless by providing shelter, food, and water, as more people than ever are living on the streets without the basic necessities to survive. 
Our staff, volunteers, and those we serve work together to provide assistance to those in need due to circumstances beyond their control to empower the most vulnerable among us and improve their quality of life.

LifeStraw operates the Safe Water Fund, a 501(c)3 project, to support the provision of safe water where it is needed most.  

The Safe Water Fund operates as a 501(c)(3) project, supporting the implementation of long-term, sustainable safe water programs worldwide. We partner with grassroots organizations and local leaders to identify and reach communities and families most in need.

In addition to our retail-funded Give-Back program, the Safe Water Fund provides safe water during humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters. We also lead special initiatives in the cities where our employees live, including at our headquarters in Baltimore City, and participate in Giving Tuesday efforts each year.

Supporting the Palisades rebuild, and building a model for all disaster communities


Team Palisades grew out of borrowed corners and improvised meeting rooms. In the weeks after the January 2025 fire, neighbors found each other on glitchy Zoom calls, over cups of coffee in local shops, and squeezed into borrowed spaces around town. Out of those small, determined encounters came a shared conviction: that recovery would be stronger if it was built by the community itself, with many voices and many hands at the table.

That spirit took root one Saturday in March, when a group of Palisades residents gathered at Team Molly’s space. World Central Kitchen served us a hot meal, and between bites we began sketching out what support could look like—block by block, family by family, and business by business. What started as conversation around folding tables has since grown into a living framework for rebuilding: block captains connecting neighbors, volunteers stepping forward with skills and time, and a widening circle of partners committed to our long-term recovery.

We’ve come far since those first tentative meetings, but our work is still just beginning. Team Palisades welcomes new energy, new ideas, and new neighbors every day. Whether you join as a volunteer, a partner, or simply as a voice in the conversation, you are part of writing the next chapter of our community. This is the essence of our work: neighbors helping neighbors, not just to restore what was lost, but to create a Palisades that is stronger, more connected, and more welcoming than ever before.

When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes with the urgency of now to start cooking meals for people in need. To support regional economies, WCK prioritizes purchasing local ingredients to cook with or distribute. Food provides not only nourishment, but also comfort and hope, especially in times of crisis.

By 1997, Mari Kuraishi and Dennis Whittle were convinced many key innovations in global development weren’t getting the attention they deserved. Believing there had to be a better way to do aid, they started an experiment. In February 2000, they invited any social entrepreneur to pitch his or her earth-changing idea at the World Bank. The 300+ participants ranged from a group of NASA scientists to a woman who’d never before left her Ugandan village.

The event was a success, and Mari and Dennis realized good ideas can come from anyone, anywhere, at any time. They also realized there were many others who wanted to support good ideas. So they left the Bank to launch the world’s first crowdfunding community in 2002. Pasadena Humane is more than an animal shelter; we are a community-supported animal resource center providing compassion and care for all animals. Since 1903, Pasadena Humane has offered lifesaving programs and services for animals and the people who love them in the Greater Los Angeles Area. At our Pasadena campus, we provide shelter, dedicated care and new beginnings for thousands of our community’s most vulnerable animals every year. In addition to pet adoptions and foster, we focus on programs and services aimed at helping people care for and keep their pets, such as free and low-cost spay/neuter and vaccines, a pet food pantry, and an animal support call center. In 2022, Pasadena Humane helped nearly 40,000 animals through adoptions, wildlife rehabilitation, lost & found, veterinary services, and surrender prevention assistance.
